It becomes tough to concentrate on the things when depression gets you. Depression is something very different from just becoming unhappy. It’s like you are walking under the dark tunnel with no light or end. Even winning the biggest prize on earth would not snap someone out of depression. Everything you love and the things you find enjoyable become a burden. There is not a simple task to get out of the depression, but there are some methods that may reduce the symptoms of depression.

1. Practice Mindfulness

A depressed mind leads to pondering about the situation that is unnecessary and starts prophesying the negative possibilities that may emerge in the future which makes it challenging to stay in the present moment. This negative thought is a serious concern that makes the joy, compassion and befriending vanish just when you require it most. Mindfulness is a practice that makes you stay in the present moment - what’s happening around you and what the heck are you going to do. Remaining in the present and practising mindfulness is the biggest solution in overcoming depression and stress.

2. Listen to Upbeat Music

An interesting music playlist can change the atmosphere instantly and it will express a confident vibe helping you to overcome stress and depression. It is scientifically proven that listening to music changes brain chemistry and drastically improves mood.

3. Use Touch

Science has proved that touch therapy is the vital treatment for overcoming depression. Lower the stress hormone cortisol and increase the feel-good hormone oxytocin. Some of the therapies are acupuncture, acupressure, massage, reiki and reflexology.

4. Include Omega 3 Fatty Acids in Your Diet

It has been researched out that the stressed people lack fatty acid known as EPA. In An Experiment that took place in 2002 held by Archives of General Psychiatry, The contestants are told to include a gram of fish oil in the diet and It is found out 50 percent decrease in a symptom such as anxiety, sleep disorders, unexplained feelings of sadness, suicidal thoughts, and decreased sex drive. Omega 3 fatty acids are also considered to be very beneficial in lowering cholesterol and improving cardiovascular health. You can intake omega 3 fatty acid in your diet through walnuts, flaxseed and oily fish like salmon or tuna.

5. Stop the Negative Self Talk

It is observed that stressed people negatively see the whole world. When they make a mistake they either blame themselves or put it down to others and when they do the right, they put it down to luck. Sense your inner thoughts and remind yourself that you are thinking as a depressed person, not a healthy functioning person. Be perspective with your decision and never feel stressed when your feelings are low.

6. Distract Yourself

When depression takes place in your soul, do your best to distract yourself. Play with a pet, Read a book, Hit the gym, listen to inspiring music, visit your family and friends. Do anything that you can to keep the distraction and negative thoughts at bay. It also depends on your lifestyle that how you are gonna distract yourself, if you hold a grudge against someone then you must need to forgive them. 7. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep and Depression are mutually connected. It is studied that an insufficient amount of sleep is the major reason for stress and depression. It is also observed that even partial sleep deprivation has a lot of work to do with mood. The quality of sleep has a straightforward connection with your waking life including your mental sharpness, productivity, emotional balance, creativity, physical vitality, and even your weight. Aim for sleep for at least 7.5 hours to 9 hours sleep per night as the quality of sleep will make a notable improvement in depression.

8. Exercise

One of the best ways to give up depression is exercise. Exercise releases endorphins which improve natural immunity and improve mood. Apart from lifting your mood, Regular exercise also packs with a lot of health benefits including lowering blood pressure, protecting against heart disease and also keeping you healthy.
