It really can be that simple — and I’m going to show you what’s worked for me after years of lacklustre results.

I was like many people along my weight loss journey — looking for the easy way towards success.

There was never an easy way, and it took some work.

Let me clarify that you need to do some boring things all the time, and yes, you will have to limit the food you eat to an extent.

Being a little bit creative is helpful to make things interesting.

Nothing on here will be anything different to what you already know.

Instead, it’s a timely reminder of just how narrow the window of rules there are to weight loss.

I believe the one thing people lack is taking the necessary steps towards changing lifestyle habits.

So many of us are stuck in our ways of thinking, and we hold some comfort in it. Perhaps it gives us an air of familiarity everyday life seems to lack.

If you can push past the resistance, your comfort zone starts to allow expansion, and a new habit is formed.

Do the following things, and you won’t ever need to worry about weight loss ever again.

One: Fill your plate with an array of colourful veggies

I never really had any luck going with these macro calculators.

I find that the level of veggies was just too low for my liking.

Vegetables are the most valuable food source you can eat and should fill your plate with it.

Green veggies are best, but a variety is even better.

The more variety we eat, the more likely we will feed the good bacteria in our gut.

It also leads to feeling satisfied and bringing more in more adequate fibre.

Simple changes to our diet like this make a HUGE difference to our weight loss efforts and our health.

Add more veggies, and then add more.

Two: Keep eating fats

Never turn your back on high-quality fats like avocados, salmon or nuts.

They are high in fat, but it’s the fat our brain and body needs to function.

These foods, although high in calories are thermogenic.

Our body burns calories to process them.

The benefits of fats are so significant that you probably already know them.

So don’t skimp on adding avocado to your salads, cold-pressed olive oil on your greens and having a few nuts when peckish.

Three: Drink lots of water

Most people have a problem remembering to drink water regularly.

You can fix this issue with so many different apps. I’m not even going to mention them here because you probably have one already!

Honestly, though, keep yourself hydrated every single day.

It’s one of the most basic essential’s for appetite control and keeping our body healthy.

Keep a bottle with you at all times, and don’t stop drinking.

Four: Keep active, even when you are busy

I make it a top priority to get out and do as much walking as possible.

I’m busy too, and I’m happy to squeeze in the necessary time to achieve my goals. It would be best if you made that commitment to yourself as well.

Taking a half-hour break, 2 or 3 times a day, isn’t going to harm your results.

Think about what you can do when you are walking:

  • Have a meeting
  • Listen to some audiobooks
  • Use it as a form of meditation
  • Use it as a time to break state if you have a creative block

Five: Forget the diet sodas

Swap any of these garbage drinks with the following:

  • Water
  • Tea
  • Green tea
  • Water
  • Herbal tea
  • Water

Notice how I mentioned water three times?

Well, that’s because you should be saving your liquid consumption for water only.

Don’t waste the space in your stomach for chemically filled garbage in a can, posing as a weight loss aid.

They don’t help with weight loss at all — and probably make you feel bloated.

Six: Drink warm water on an empty stomach every morning

I swear by this and add lemon and ginger to it.

This sets you up for a great day by kick-starting your digestion, eliminating bloating and giving your body a much-needed hydration boost after hours of sleep.

I like to drink a litre of this water every morning — but start small and keep building up if that’s too much.

I wish I had tried this method a lot sooner — it’s one of the best strategies around — and it costs almost nothing!

Having this is like a pre-workout for me.

I feel so incredible that sometimes I don’t even need my black coffee with it.

I know it’s too simple to be true — but it’s correct.

Try it out and see for yourself.

Seven: Eat your veggies first — then the rest of what’s left on your plate

I don’t believe in portion control when it comes to veggies.

I don’t even think we eat enough. But when you aim to eat the veggies off your plate first, watch how much fuller you will feel.

Then, if you feel up to it, eat the rest but stop when you can’t anymore.

Don’t overfeed yourself because you don’t want to waste anything.

A human wasn’t made to be a food wastebasket for leftovers or when you are stuffed.

Nine: Think about the value of food before you eat it

This isn’t about prayer. It’s about logic.

I am a logical person, and when I’m about to make the wrong decision, the question I ask myself is this:

“Will eating this food provides me with the nourishment my body needs and make me feel good?”

If the answer is no, I don’t eat it.

Sometimes a vegan chocolate bar will be a yes, but that’s very rare — When I have my periods, it’s a different story.

It isn’t bad if you say yes to yourself once a month. When you say yes every day, that’s a different story altogether!

Ten: Make your food in advance

Some people might find this boring, but it’s the best way to stay consistent with your eating.

When you leave eating up to chance, there is a more significant chance of eating the wrong things or more than you should.

Yesterday, for instance, I didn’t take my lunch to work because we were having snacks and lunch catered for.

As a vegan/vego, I knew my options would be limited, but I took the chance.

The snacks consisted of date bars (yuck), and lunch was a dry salad with baked potatoes (the only vegan thing on the menu).

Not exactly my ideal and most healthy alternative.

I was left to go and buy some vegan sushi (which wasn’t pleasant either and gave me heartburn).

So, next time I’m going to bring my food with me anyway, and I know I won’t be disappointed.

Key take away

The best advice I can give you is to keep being consistent.

Don’t allow yourself to fall off the rails every day.

What could be a better excuse than to see to it that you have the best of health during your life?

Excessive weight will leave you feeling even more demotivated and unhappy with yourself.

You can lose weight — but don’t look for external factors. The answer lies in the simplicities of food and activity DAILY, not only when you feel like it.

Successful people in anything do things even when they don’t feel like it — and know very well that there is another, more delicious and easier option behind another door.

They choose the right way because they know it will work long term
