There are two sections in a Tarot deck; The Major Arcana and The Minor Arcana. The Majors are like a syllabus for the lessons we’ve chosen to master on this journey through the human experience. There are 22 Majors with numbers ranging from 0 to 21 which comprise a pathway of learning and experience. The Minors are the real life, day to day challenges and interactions we go through in an effort to follow the greater design set out by the Majors. If the Majors are the power station, the Minors are the wires, conduits, conjunctions and connections that give us the real life triumphs and challenges we can use to piece the lessons together.

This week all three cards are from the Minor Arcana.

What this tells me is that over the last few weeks we’ve been aligning with and coordinating our larger life lessons. We’ve forged ahead riding a wave of determination and come to some realizations about which directions we choose to have our paths lead. As a result, we begin the transformation by getting down and dirty, into the dark heart of the matters at hand. The most beautiful and magical gardens begin with the gardener digging in the dirt, pulling weeds hoisting rocks and adding manure. To arrive at the grandeur of the garden we must plow through the dirt.

The Center card for the week is the 7 of Pentacles.

The Pentacles represent physicality, our resources; time, energy, money and our physical body. It seems this week our strength, tools and abilities are charged up and ready to be utilized and tested. The secret turns and shifts of the integration we seek have yet to be discovered and it is in the actual working of the physical mechanism of reality that we find the way. We’ve built the foundation, proved our intent and now it’s time to get down to business. After the hard work required to build up a power base, as demanding and challenging as it was, settling into the actual work of maintaining the project can seem mundane and a bit lifeless until we find that junction where the hard work and the intention meet and balance. Therein lie the secrets and solutions. We find the treasure in the effort. I love flowers and vegetables but I really do Not love pulling weeds and smooshing invasive insects with a drop of perspiration hanging at the end of my nose. However, in order to arrive at the final beautiful, healthy garden, those things need to be done. Holding a picture of flowers in vases and fresh vegetables on the table gives meaning and appreciation to the drudgery of digging, pulling, hauling, sweating and slapping mosquitoes.

The West card is the 5 of Swords.

I see this five as the point at which we begin to doubt. It’s the tiny voice of the devil on our shoulder telling us that we aren’t enough, that we’re wrong, that we’re foolish or stupid. Whether this little voice comes from those around us or from old detractors we’ve faced down or even from our own lack of self esteem they're distracting and can be devastating if we let them. The good news here is that with the dedication of staying on task in our physical daily life we may find a good way to overcome those doubts in “busy work”. In doing just that, we accomplish two goals; we keep the beasts of doubt at bay and we put more energy into weeding and maintaining the deeper projects we’ve begun. Try to remember that the voices of doubt are lies. They have no depth or power that we don’t give to them ourselves.

The East card is the 8 of Swords.

Both the West and East cards this week are from the suit of Swords and they’re two of the more challenging aspects of the suit. This means that, at the moment, it’s our intellect that can trip us up while we strive to maintain and further our projects, enterprises and/or carefully planned designs. As humans we have a great capacity for articulate thought. It’s a terrific asset to have while we devise and refine our plans and search for options and inspiration. It can, however, get in the way while we’re busy with the details and mundanity of chores and maintenance, especially if we have folks around us who would have our chosen plans fail or change. I see the 8 of Swords as outside interference, like static on a radio interfering with the message we choose to hear. Look for tossed monkey wrenches this week. There may be those around you who see your endeavors to change and grow as a challenge to their own plans or their authority. Let the work you’re doing be the veil of silence that drowns out the negativities that can pull you off course.

In conclusion;

“It’s not the destination, it’s the journey” seems like a good mantra for the week. As we implement our strategies, plans, decisions and intentions we may encounter a few upset apple carts. The ability to keep our heads in the work at hand and focused on the outcome we desire, can help us overcome the negativity of old thought patterns, manipulative acquaintances or just plain old fear. You’ve accomplished the big lesson, the Universal growth, now it’s time to work it into the reality of life.

Have a successful week.

Light, Tory

TIP for the week: Never follow anyone else’s path. Unless you’re in the woods and you’re lost and you see a path, then absolutely follow that path.
