The Center card this week is the 10 of Swords.

The central focus for the week is about facing the dark truth of how we think ourselves into traps. In working with the Swords, we look directly at how our cognitive thought patterns and accumulated knowledge dictate our actions. The ten brings us to the depths of that place we end up when we listen to our head at the exclusion of our heart. The tens are the apex of each suit, and in the Swords this means logic divorced from reality. Pure thought without regard to outside influence, inner feeling or consequences which may arise. Yes, this sounds dire and it often is. Sometimes we need to get to the very underbelly of an experience before we’re able to knock the ineffective, or even destructive, thinking out of the way and climb back up out of the hole we’ve dug ourselves into. On the positive side, this is the perfect place to make a new start.

The West card is the Queen of Pentacles.

This queen is the ultimate earth mother. She’s able to remain grounded in prosperous times and in times of struggle alike. She is wise in the ways of creating out of whatever is at hand and can mold fears and doubts into action. Her strength and grounded wisdom often calm discord using logic combined with resources and tenacity. She has no time for the what-ifs or I-can'ts or the it’s-not-fairs. She will find a way to make things comfortable and safe again. She represents our inner knowing that if it’s possible we can do it. Dedicated and steadfast, she's our “rock.” She is that resourcefulness we have that finds a way when there seems to be nothing we can do. If faced with tough times this week, give yourself time to ground your energy with the warm embrace of the Earth. Carry an acorn in your pocket to remind you of the strength of the great oak rooted deeply to the earth or write an affirmation on a Post-It and stick it to your mirror. “I am strong, I am smart, I can do anything I set my mind to.”

The East card is the Prince of Pentacles.

I see this card as the personification of tenacity. The princes represent the first steps of action driven by the intent their element sparks and this one shows us the slow grind of never giving up. He’s not afraid to put his head down and do the work that needs to be done. Though they may at times seem slow or not the sharpest tool in the shed, in fact these princes are often well informed because they do take their time. They like to have info to back their work. While the princes of Cups, Swords and Wands float over or slice through or burn down obstacles, this prince slowly wears them away. They can also be stubborn to the point of obstinance, and while that’s usually seen as a negative trait, when they’re right (or when they think they are) nothing will knock them off their chosen path.

In conclusion;

With the harsh 10 bracketed on each side by the Queen of Pentacles to the west and the Prince of Pentacles to the east, the message seems to be breathe, relax, calm down and ground yourself, you can do this. Look to the wisdom, strength and vigor you find when you’re pressed to the limit. We’re coming into the time when pressure associated with our various winter celebrations can cause us to overthink things and get all caught up in the anxiety of details and preparations. When faced with all the things we feel required to do to “make the holidays bright” it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. This triad seems to say, “it’s probably not going to be easy but you have the knowledge, drive and strength to meet any challenge head on.” Put your head down, your shoulder to the wheel and keep going until the work is done.

Have a powerful week and remember to breathe.

Light,

Tory

TIP for the week; It's probably not smart to ice skate on roller blades.
