The Center card this week is the Prince of Wands.

Passion and tenacity rule the week. I see the princes as the adolescent boys of the Tarot. In their progression from the innocence, their younger siblings, the princesses, hold they emerge with the basic information they’ve gained through that initial experience. And like young men who’ve just begun to experience the world, they feel full of their five minutes of practical exposure and the “wisdom” they’ve gained. Likely to have more vigor than reason, they tend to charge off towards whatever obstacles they detect, confident in their knowledge and determined to prove themselves. Those of us with a bit more than five minutes of experience stand back with a sigh holding the helmet and elbow pads left behind and remembering the walls we’ve charged and the reasons for the helmet and pads. The beauty of that headlong charge into obstacles is that sometimes those boundaries are an illusion and the lack of preconceived expectations allows us to break right through as if they never existed at all. Maybe they never did.

The West card is the Ace of Wands.

The Aces of each suit embody the element they represent in its purest form. As the fire of the Wands suggests, we have an opportunity at this time to recognize and embrace the passion and vitality our determined Will can inspire. The push of our creative passions seems to have lit a fire under us, as we may have noticed last week with the Eight of Wands at the center, and we feel compelled to act. The fire of our Will now is bright and defining and also purifying. It would be well to remember the power of heat and flame to burn, meld and forge. With our Will at a high point and our afterburners on full tilt we could find ourselves flattening the people who just wanted to offer us those helmets and pads. By the same token we could be the ones getting flattened by someone else’s determination. In either case, a cognizant grasp of the reasoning (or lack thereof) behind the passionate forward thrust may allow us to bend and flow rather than crash and burn.

The East card is the Wheel of Fortune.

Here we find a lesson about how intricately and intimately luck and timing dance. As our passions ignite and propel us towards our desires we find ourselves being moved in ways beyond our normal, everyday expectations or control. In this way we feel caught up in the movement of the Universe which we often define as luck. What we sometimes forget to include in that experience is the Will and determination that has sprung from the center of who we are to set the wheels of the Universe in motion. I think we often experience this idea of luck, good and bad, as out of our control and it is easier to place the responsibility of our choices, actions or outcomes on sources of power that are not our own. However in accepting responsibility we begin to see just how intimately our Will and intention is bound to the turning of the Universal wheel of luck. One of my favorite quotes is by the author Paolo Coelho who says, “When we make a decision, the Universe conspires to make it so.” As I see it, the magic we wield every day is in that perfect moment of decision, that moment when “if” disappears and “when” takes its place.

In conclusion;

The engine behind our intentions and decisions is in high gear this week. It’s a very good time for implementation and getting down to the work needed to solidify our desires into viable options. Determination is strong and passion is high, the fire of the Wands lights us up and compels us to action. At the same time, our determination can spur us headlong into difficult or challenging situations. We’re uniquely able to face the challenges that may pop up right now and may even find tempers flaring as a result. In the event that you find yourself at an impasse, a step back, a deep breath and intellectual clarification in your own mind will go a long way toward smoothing the path. And if someone is just trying to hand you a helmet, understand they care and though what they offer might not be what you see as a help or solution, thank them anyway.

Have a dynamic week.
