This week I’m debuting a new deck. It’s still the Thoth (which is the only deck I use) and the images are reworked from Lady Frieda Harris’ original paintings. They’ve been “modernized” and made more aesthetically pleasing with brighter, more blended colors. I enjoy the new images, I hope you do too.

The Center card this week is the 8 of Wands.

The creative energy that’s been gathering for the last couple of weeks has now gotten to the point where it’s ready to break its boundaries. Whether it’s triggered by frustration, excitement, anger or joy there is a powerful force looking for expression. The Wands represent the element of fire and their vibrance and power can burn through obstacles and purify situations. Sometimes whether you want them to or not. By burning away the unnecessary posturing that so often goes along with maneuvering for one’s point of view or desired outcome this fiery tempering influence can allow us to see clearly where and how manipulation is being used as well as where could be utilized. This is not to say all manipulation is negative. Yes, we sometimes have to deal with people who try to bend us to their will, but creativity also lives in manipulating what’s known and what’s available into a new form. An artist manipulates his paint or clay or light to create images that bring pleasure and a cellist manipulates the strings of her instrument to create the deep, resonant vibratory sound. The thing to embrace is how to best implement that creative energy, recognize its power and use its, sometimes destructive, force with intent. There are things in life that require deconstruction to thrive. Here in Maine, our blueberry fields are burned in two year cycles to encourage new growth. Iron is heated to burn away impurities and become steel. Deconstruction can be a good thing, it's just hard to tell sometimes while you're face to face with it.

The West card is the 8 of Pentacles.

This eight generally urges us to step back from the hard work we’ve been doing and take the time to evaluate how that hard work has begun to take hold and the direction it’s headed. During this pause we’re able to see what’s working and what isn’t, where our energies and focus can be best directed and find the weeds of indecision, deception and wasted effort to dig out. It is this perspective-gathering that has likely caused the powerful energy of the 8 of Wands at the center. We’ve looked at where things are going and been struck by a jolt inspiration or definition as to how that direction should unfold.

The East card is the Queen of Swords.

One of the fun things about seeing familiar images re-imagined is finding new aspects that you’ve forgotten were there or that didn’t have much impact on your familiar interactions. This Queen has been just that for me. The image of the queen triumphantly holding the severed head of a man has made a much stronger impression than the paler image in the original painting. Now as I work with the energy of the card I see a new implication. Along with this queen representing our ability to communicate in a clear and direct way with intelligence and integrity, I now see her ability to cut away the old norms in no uncertain terms plus the recognition that she can take the gloves off, pull the sword out of its scabbard and use the sharp edge when she needs to defend her truth and her honor. She has something to say and she's not afraid to say it honestly.

In conclusion;

Fiery insight and revelation will likely be at the center of our interactions this week. We’ve spent a good amount of time working hard towards our goals. Whether they be work or productivity based, communication in interpersonal relationships or making tough decisions about health or finances, we’ve begun to see the light of future possibility and we’re ready to clarify, communicate and defend our realizations and decisions. The good news for the week is that the Queen of Swords with her intellect is able to clearly and succinctly define what needs to happen. We’re able to see what needs to be kept, what needs to be let go and the work to do to prevail on the path we’ve chosen. By the end of the week we should have a very good idea of where we stand in a number of scenarios.

Have a crystal clear week.

Light,

Tory
