Origin

Although it's not called a religion, RaJ Yoga does have its roots in Hinduism and the meditation is a way of empowering yourself spiritually. It started with one man who channelled words of enlightenment, every day he would speak to the group that would congregate together for uplifting spiritual direction and this was recorded each day, until he died in 18th January 1969, which gave the group five years worth of material which they could reuse on a daily basis. Now every day the Murli is read by groups all over the world, every morning. It is run predominantly by women who get up at 4:30 every morning to read through the Murli and then again at 6:30.

Brahma Kumaris was founded by Dada Lekhraj Kripalani, a retired Indian businessman, in 1937 in Hyderabad, a city now in Pakistan. His spiritual name is Prajapita Brahma and he is lovingly called Brahma Baba. After experiencing a series of visions in 1936, he was inspired to create a school where the principles and practices of a virtuous and meditative life could be taught. The original name was 'Om Mandali'. It consisted of a handful of men, women and children, many of whom decided to stay together as a community.

World Drama Cycle

This is a way of life as well as being about the meditation, always working towards the good of all, as we repeat each world cycle. There are four ages that we have to endure within a cycle, which reflect our state of being, each cycle lasts five thousand years and within that, we have the four stages called Golden, Silver, Copper and Iron ages. We are currently transitioning from the Iron age, which is full of woe and hardship to the Golden age, where we can experience our divine nature to the fullest. This will eventually lead through to the other two cycles where it will then repeat itself over and over again.

Meditation

There is no strict method for meditation but ultimately it's all about connecting to the supreme being and this can be done through each other as well as by yourself.

The idea is to sit comfortably on a chair with your feet flat on the ground, if your legs are not fully comfortable, you can put a cushion under your feet to make that connection to the ground. The meditation session doesn't have to be long, we juts have to raise our inner vibration which can be done with many resources available, the link below will give you more information.

When there is more than one person meditating together, it is customary for the group leader to meet the gaze of each person, as each person meditates with their eyes fully open. The idea is to look at the soul through the eyes, as it is believed the soul resides there as an infinitesimal point of light, in a specific region of the brain. The greeting and connection is made, as each soul acknowledges their existence.

The positivity of this experience is then often focused on a particular element of our lives or to help other people/situations that are currently prominent in your life.

This positivity can also be manifested through every day cooking as our vibrations are carried through our thoughts and are caught in our activities. A meditative and positive mind can be employed while we prepare the food and this in turn is carried onto the people who eat and digest the food, carrying positive vibrations to all we come in contact with. The food is usually vegan, so that no suffering was carried through into the cooking, leaving only positive vibrations within.

This web site has a lot of good resource tools, as well as giving lots of other useful information.
