Low Stress Threshold Management Tips

Stress is bad for your health, but here are some reasons it is useful to have some knowledge of your threshold of stress.

So many people are on high blood pressure medication, high cholesterol medication, and anti-anxiety relieving prescriptions because of one thing: stress.

Stress is the most common denominator for any ill-health response to the environment. Cortisol is a chemical that comes from stress; we release it when we are stressed out or there isn't enough nutrients entering the body. Too much cortisol means an increase in water weight or high blood pressure. All of these problems come from the level of stress that we can manage on a daily basis.

I will break down stress thresholds and tell you what you can do to combat these problems in the long term solution.

What is a threshold? What is my stress tolerance?

A threshold means that there is a level at which the body will start to succumb to the effects. For example, someone with a high alcohol tolerance or threshold will not see effects of their drinking until they have gone over their limit of consumption. Thresholds and tolerance levels are important to learn because that means you are actively listening to your body. When we listen to our bodies, we know how we can make them better and more responsive to situations or adjust our tolerance levels.

So now that you know about threshold and tolerance, let's tackle the problems of stress thresholds and tolerance. Stress tolerance is the ability to be calm and controlled in a stressful situation. Stress threshold is the ability for you to handle stress at certain levels and what the effects might be if you go over the threshold limit. A low threshold to stress means anything minor you overreact or become irrational. A high threshold to stress means you have enough patience and practice to ensure that the stress does not get to you.

When someone is under enough stress to act irrational or to have a mental-breakdown of such, it means that you are performing duties that you may not have the necessary credentials to do, or you are unable to meet certain criteria in both personal and professional aspects. Here are some things you can work on that may help with stress and what it means to be tolerable to your stress levels.

1. Exercise

If you have a low level to handling stress, exercise may be up your alley. Exercise works on improving blood flow, stamina, and challenging yourself to do better. This may make it more tolerable to work in a fast-paced environment. After work is over, get dressed in your best exercise equipment and head to the gym or a local park. Run or walk about two miles everyday and you will see the results in how clear and focused you will become.

Other forms of exercise that focus on stamina and improving your mental health include things like meditation or yoga. Taking some time away from focusing on things after work is over helps calm you down and easily relaxes you.

2. Sex

This sounds odd coming from someone who is trying to give you ways to reduce your stress, but sex is another form of stress reducing method that includes altering chemicals in the body.

Sex naturally releases hormones like dopamine and oxytocin (female hormone present in breastfeeding or reaching an orgasm). The pleasure response in your brain can either leave you numb or more relaxed at the end of the sexual session. It is also a great way to unwind and become more intimate with a partner if you have been seen as distant or absent in the relationship.

To unwind for sexual pleasure, spend some time touching one another. The sensations would help you relax and get ready for some rumbling in the sheets, but it will no doubt ease the mind and body for a while.

3. Creative Outlets

This is where I say your stress levels will be low. Being creative, getting something that gets you psyched up like crazy will not only be a great benefit of reducing your stress, but also a great way to harness your talents. Something simple as working on a shawl or writing a poem, using your imagination is a great way to find something interesting to do. This is my personal opinion, but when people are stressed, it's more based off they have nothing that can keep them occupied or interested in doing something else, so in return they let things that go on in the day bother them and stress them out.

Find a niche in what you want to perfect, explore, or learn to give yourself some time to relax is a great way to focus on generating a creative outlet.

4. Getting a Pet

This sounds like the most obvious stress reliever and that is why I left this one for last. Pets are known to be great stress reducers, but they are also great stress reactors. Pets know when their humans are stressed out, sometimes they will act motherly or aggressively depending on the level of stress. However, if you are looking for a way to unwind or rework the way you handle stress, take it from your animal's perspective. There is nothing more than a simple game of fetch or playing with a feathered toy that can get you relaxed and more at ease.

Spending a couple of hours with your pet is enough to get your stress under control. Cats help reduce the risk of strokes and dogs help reduce the risk of depression, but they are overall great stress reducing animals to enjoy some nice snuggles with.

If you can keep these few tips in mind, then surely you are on the right track to beating being stressed out and building a tolerance to what usually would trigger a stressful reaction.
