In our life, we have all probably heard or seen how beneficial meditation is and how it can lead to remarkable changes in life when done. However, mostly there are times when we don’t know what to think or how to control ourselves while meditating.

If you first ask why meditation is advantageous to adapt, meditation allows you to remember your selfness and be at peace with yourself overall. In other words, if we evaluate the results in general, your quality of life will highly likely increase and give you an advantage in many aspects of your life.

As we move through our daily routine, there are often times when we forget who we are and even don’t have time to think that. We think of ourselves and capabilities what we can do as limited only by the titles we have, and we constantly strive to move in the same direction, but meditating not only gives you a broad perspective but also almost renews your soul.

The proposed thought of this meditation is to focus on looking at all the labels you put on yourself, all the roles you put yourself into, all the things you associate with yourself, basically, everything that makes you is you.

According to these evaluations, you are supposed to think of the following states by performing.

Start by closing your eyes and focusing on your breath for a few minutes. Begin to observe your thoughts and sink into the role of an observer.

Then, begin to contemplate everything that you think makes up who you are, acknowledging that all those things were given to you or you acquired them during your life, but they are not you. You are something beyond that, and at this moment you can observe it all.

To give an example, here are some of the thoughts that you could say to yourself during your meditations:

Start with saying and thinking about who you are, which labels do you have.

I am not a ‘…your job…’. I am not a daughter/son. I am not a girlfriend/boyfriend. I am not a sister/brother. I am not a friend. I am not ‘…your nationality…’. I am not an extrovert/introvert. I am not my fear. I am not my problem. I am not an owner of “my” phone, nor “my” computer, nor “my” money. I am not my body. I am not ‘…your name…’.

Making yourself get distance from all that you think is you will allow you to look at it all with more perspective. Think that none of those things is me. They were given to me, and I get to experience them during this life, or I get to learn from them or change them, but they are not me.

This realization will allow you to feel quite free, but also deeply grateful for everything.

Also, you will realize that what a gift is to be able to have this life based on your possessions. What a gift is to be born, be a son/daughter, a sister/brother, a girlfriend/boyfriend, a friend, a ‘…your job…’. What a gift is to have a personality that you can shape, problems and obstacles that will make you stronger, victories that will confirm that you are on the right path, and failures to show you that you can do things differently next time. What a gift and privilege it is to have my technology and clothes, food, money. What a gift it is to have this body and myself.

That in me which is aware of all “that I associate with myself” feels at peace and loving towards it all.

I am or have all that for a limited amount of time. Let’s not forget that and let’s celebrate it.

Also, let’s remember and have the awareness that none of those things defines me, and if I want and can, I have the power to shape them or look at them differently.

None of them are objects that exist to define you, you can if you want, no excuses.

Think that

What do you think makes you who you are?

Who are you beyond that?

What would you be without those possessions or titles?

Final Words

We should know that the things that make us who we are, the values are whatever passes through our brains, so in fact, what makes us who we are is ourselves.

Of course, we should not expect that our lives will change after every time we meditate, but gaining awareness on these issues will broaden your horizons by making you realize that you actually have a wider spectrum.

To the final word, I would like to add a quote from Rumi that I love and find very inspiring about life.

“Stop acting so small. You are the universe in ecstatic motion.”

~Rumi

Based on my interpretation and understanding of the quote, it means that you shouldn’t belittle your capabilities and skills because you have everything in you who could affect the world or other people’s lives or achieve your dreams or do whatever you want to do. You shouldn’t act small because you are not small. Just like the universe, you have the energy and beauty, and greatness in you.

So, we are our own universes. We are universes that move and have emotions and feelings.

In conclusion, there are many lessons to be learned from life, but first, we need to discover ourselves.

Thank you for reading, hope you enjoyed it!
