What sport enthusiasts need to know

Sports season is an exciting time of the year, and competition season is an even more exciting time of the year. This is usually because you have been training all year long and it is finally time to show off all of the hard work and progress you have put in. While your progress is important, it can be sidetracked if you are not keeping yourself healthy and you end up getting sick or injured.

Here are five things you can do to keep yourself at your best while you are exercising and improving your body’s physical health:

Have Downtime

There are so many reasons why you need to have downtime, but the main reason is that you need to prevent yourself from burning out. If you aren’t relaxing and unwinding at the end of or even throughout the day, your body can become stressed out and tense. This can lead to muscle aches, knots and tightness that can impact your ability to perform and play your sport of choice.

Practice Intentional Relaxation

When you think of relaxing, you may think of someone sitting in their bed or on the couch and not doing anything for the whole entire day. This is the unhealthy way to relax and can actually hurt your body.

The healthy way to relax is to set aside some time where you do things that help rejuvenate you and give you energy. This can include doing yoga, practicing pilates or even something as simple as giving yourself a foot massage. These things can be done before bed to help you unwind and relax before you go to bed.

Cross Train

If you are doing the same sport or activity day in and day out, over and over again, it can be harmful to your body and eventually lead to injury. This happens because you are strengthening the muscles that you use for that activity while your other muscles reach atrophy.

To prevent this from happening, it is important to cross train, which means doing other sports and activities even though you enjoy playing a main sport or activity. So if you play soccer, you could benefit from doing something else such as swimming or weightlifting. This will help keep all of your body in shape and prevent injuries.

Do Nothing Once in a While

Life is so busy. From work, school, and hobbies to friends and family, there is always so much to do. It is so important that you allow yourself to do nothing every now and again. This doesn’t mean that you have to be lazy or feel like you are doing nothing. If you are constantly going, you need to spend some time allowing your body and brain to relax and heal from everything you have done throughout the day.

If you don’t like the idea of sitting around, you can always try meditating and using essential oils. There are some Young Living Reviews that tell you what you can use while meditating to help you relax.

Remember Your Mental Health

Your mental health actually has a major impact on your physical health. Weight gain, weight loss, lack of motivation and getting tired easily are all symptoms and signs of a mental illness. If you don’t feel like yourself and have tried everything you can think of but are still having problems, it is time to go to the doctor.

There is nothing wrong or bad about getting the help that you need so you can live a good life. Start the conversation with your doctor and they can point you in the right direction to get the help that you deserve.

Being active and competing in different sporting events can be thrilling and exciting. Keeping yourself healthy will help you stay at the top of your game and help you achieve your personal health goals. What are some ways you keep yourself healthy and avoid burnout?
