How to Dress a Candle

Witch Craft 101 ; Or how to dress an intention candle (Candle Magic/Spellwork.)

Candle magick is one of the most popularized forms of witchcraft, You see it a lot in television shows and films that have a mystical or magical theme but you never really see the intentions for the candles or why they're being lit.

What you have to understand here is that candle magic isn't just as simple as lighting a candle and hoping it works.

So, Let's start with the basics; What does each candle color mean?

White Candles: Spirituality, Peace, Higher Self, Purity or Substitution.

Keep in mind that a white candle can also be seen as a blank slate as long as it hasn’t been used before; If you’re missing a color and need it for a ritual I suggest using a white candle.

Brown Candles: Home Protection, Animals, Stability, Family, Material goods.

Pink Candles: Romantic Love, Emotional Healing, Friendship, Caring, Nurturing, Self-love

Yellow Candles: Intelligence, Learning, Reason, Focus, Joy, Comfort, Hope

Blue Candles: Communication, Travelling, Inspiration, Calm, Creativity, Forgiveness

Silver Candles: Intuition, Psychism, Dreams, Femininity, The moon

Black Candles: Banishing against negativity, Protection, Binding

Red Candles: Vital Energy, Strength, Passion, Courage, Fast action, Lust

Orange Candles: Business, Success, Justice, Opportunity, Celebration, Charisma

Green Candles: Nature, Physical, Abundance, Luck, Money, Healing, Growth

Purple Candles: Influence, Psychic, Abilities, Wisdom, Authority, Hidden knowledge, Third eye

Gold Candles: Wealth, Masculinity, Luck, Power, Happiness, The sun

Now that you know the meanings for each candle and its color, You can start making your intention candle.

If you’ve bought a mass-produced candle your first step should be to cleanse it using sage or incense.

In order to set your intention, you should carve a rune/ Sigil/ or Symbol into the candle, You can use a pen or a knife it really doesn’t matter as long as it's legible.

After that you have the option to use a multi-surface acrylic paint to fill in the sigil, I suggest using another color for your intentions- Make sure to wipe off all the excess.

Carve/ Poke three holes into the top of the candle and add some anointing oil, There's plenty to match your intentions so make sure to research them. Make sure to once again wipe off the excess before you add crystals or herbs.

After adding the oil you can any of the herbs, Crystals or even salts to match your intentions on top of the carved holes in the candle.

Add some wax to bind and to keep yourself from a real fire hazard.

Then you're set.

If this intention candle is for a specific person, To make sure it finds its way to that person I suggest writing their name and burning it with the flame of the candle.

Candle Magick can be extremely useful and Powerful, So once again I remind you all to practice this magic wisely and not misuse it. This type of magic can guide you and help you but only if you respect it.

However, I will add a little bit of a reminder to put out all your candles and I suggest you blow it out and not snuff it out because if you do you're likely to lose the intended purpose of the ritual and your candle.
