How Do You Roll?

Over or Under: Dealer’s Choice

We have all done it in our own home, at the club, a friend’s house, or your in-law’s house and there is no shame in it. It happens to the best of us and it is wired in our psychology for us maneuver a certain way to make you comfortable while doing the deed and what position is easier for your dexterity. You are probably wondering what I am talking about and I am talking about switching direction of the toilet paper – more importantly the correct way that the toilet paper should roll.

Let us take a trip to 1857, the dawn of toilet paper, which was started by Joseph C. Gayetty. Now without him we would be wiping our butts and lower extremities with a leaf from a nearby tree. Flash forward to 1871 - a man named Seth Wheeler then came up with perforated paper to rip with ease. Another question came up about how we hold the toilet paper without putting it on the floor or dropping it. Next thing you know He worked out a patent for a plastic tube and hardware to hold the paper which is currently known as the toilet paper roll. The Patent that is posted below shows that the toilet paper is meant to roll over.

The Correct way in my opinion is the roll should be placed so the sheets roll over the top. If the toilet paper is placed in any other direction, there is a good chance that someone else’s poop is on your hand/toilet paper and therefore rubbing it in your butt. Now that is very disgusting... How you ask? Well, when the roll starts from underneath, the sheet is resting against the wall and you try to grab toilet paper – your hand is touching wall and leaving remnants of poop and bacteria on the wall for the next person to touch.

I live with five people and constantly have guests in and out of the house. While they go on about their business and mark their territory so to speak, I would wipe the wall and place the toilet paper correctly and use the potty. It is a habit that happens everywhere I go only because I would not want to touch another person’s poop.

In a survey conducted amongst a group of people to ask for their opinions on whether or not toilet paper should start from over or underneath and the results are a little over fifty percent prefers over and I applaud them for thinking correctly and smart choice I might Add. About twenty-seven percent prefer the latter and would not mind getting other people’s poop all up in their business. Approximately twenty percent could care less and have no problem with the direction of the toilet paper.

Bacteria on hands can stay on throughout the day even after washing your hands, now let’s be honest, not everyone washes their hands for fifteen seconds especially employees at food service counters or restaurants. That can be considerably dangerous because breeding bacteria can cause food poisoning and in my experience is not a fun experience.

Just imagine you are out on vacation out in Hawaii or the Bahamas and you have a nice meal then as soon as you want to take a nice picture – you are getting whammied from both ends with vomit blowing out of you like a water hose along with your rear end playing the melody. Sorry for that disturbing imagery but that is what will become of others if you decide to not be hygienic.

Employees everywhere reading this – please wash your hands thoroughly.
