The most disrespected thing in life is a black woman. Malcolm X said that back in 1962. A quote that shouldn’t be but is still relevant today. Behind every good man is a woman but behind every great man is a black woman. Black women have been the crazy glue that has held this country together and it is time that they are recognized for their accomplishments.

There is a black woman in the bay area that is operating in a field mostly dominated by Caucasian men. She grew up in a family of wellness so her path towards greatness was already paved out. She attended Cal Berkeley and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

She left college and began working for other employers at small time jobs just to get by but soon realized that her calling and passion was health and wellness. That fire had never left her, so she decided to start her own practice.

It took her about three years to get her practice up and running. She had saved her checks from her previous work and applied for a business loan. Against her thoughts, she was approved.

At the time she began her business there no woman in the field. Most of the men were against a woman having their own practice. They felt as if woman should be working for them at their practice answering phones and under their tutelage. She was disliked in the beginning. Not to mention the area that she opened her practice was a hotbed for drug sales which resulted in a couple of drug-related shootings outside her business.

Some of the other clinics would discourage patients from going to her practice. It was a bit rough. However, she stayed persistent and relentless in her approach and overcame the boundaries and stereotypes that were thrown her way, and made her business successful against all odds. She gained the trust of some of the local men that were established within the community and they in return relocated their operations elsewhere.

In regard to her vigorous hustle with building her business, she won an award for her writings on spinal misalignment and S.I.D.S which is sudden infant syndrome. This is a woman that seems to never take a break or a day off from her holistic approach.

I have witnessed her care from my first experience. Along with her treatment she offered a complex but easily understood rehab plan that would assist me with my plan. It is one thing to go to a chiropractor and get adjusted but it is another to go to a chiropractic and get adjusted and receive a total wellness plan that really helps if followed.

Dr. Jamillia Neyon goes above and beyond as it pertains to treatment. She specializes in numerous amount of treatments from neck pain to carpal tunnel syndrome. From ankle pain to groin pain to children's falls, birth trauma and hyperactivity.

Seeing a black woman in a field of wellness really opened my eyes to what is more important as I get older. Health. Without good health, I may not be here in the long run. I never really cared about my health and wellness until after my appointment with Dr. Neyon many years ago. From that first session I incorporated her wellness plan into my daily routine which has become an extreme part of my life.

In 2015 Dr. Neyon’s clinic Balance Point was the recipient of the prestigious Patient’s choice award. Many clinics that receive that award finds their way to the top of the industry just as Dr. Neyon has. Since 1996 she has been adjusting the bay area and providing the community with exceptional health and wellness information anytime she can. She is always available in a world where so many people are unavailable and distracted. She is a committed and focused chiropractic that just happens to be a black woman but make no mistake about it, those two reasons are the deciding factors in her success.

In a world where most people offer lip service and empty promises, Jamillia does not. She is an intricate part of the fabric that is woven within the bay area. She is and has been a pillar in the community since and well before 1996 when she opened her practice on Shattuck Avenue in Oakland. She donates to non-profits and assists the homeless community whenever possible with whatever is needed. She is beyond amazing and awesome. Considering the times that we live in now people like her are extinct. She is a human highlight.

So, with that said I would like to acknowledge Dr. Jamillia Neyon for her profound contributes and compassion for the bay area and the people that ultimately reside in that community. I would like to thank her for her consistency of excellence and education in health and wellness that we black folks definitely need. I would also like to thank her for opening a practice in a neighborhood at the time was not a traditional place where a business of her stature could have been run. She had the gumption and guts to not only start a business but keep that business running for the past 25 years. Here’s to you Dr. Jamillia Neyon and another 25 years diving in success.
