Most people don't know what their blood type is, let alone know about a diet that can help them get healthier by being aware it. Today is your lucky day, because all you have to do is Google "Blood Type Diet" to know what foods are best for you and what foods cause illness and disease in your body. For me, the story began a few years ago.

I was at my local library and ran into a book called, Eat Right for Your Blood Type by Peter D'Adamo. I was a bit intrigued by the concept because I had heard of it before. I remember when Lance Armstrong talked about eating for his life during his battle with cancer. Luckily for me, I knew my blood type due to previous military service. For all who have served, they usually print your blood type on your military shot records.

My Blood Type is AB positive. At the time I learned of the diet, I was already training to become a health and wellness coach, so I decided to test it out. To my surprise, just after scanning over the food list that I should NOT eat really resonated with me. For example, I personally like avocado, but I cannot stand to eat it every day. Avocado causes me to have serious indigestion and gas. I always end up feeling bloated after I eat it. Same feeling I get with bananas. They were also on my Do NOT eat list.

Being more in tune with your body, helps one to automatically listen to the signals received when it tells you not to eat something. However, for those of us that are more conditioned to eat certain things due to pleasure and taste, we typically ignore the body's repetitive warning signals. So, knowing your blood type and what's best for you to eat can eliminate doubt and create positive change in your personal nutrition and eating habits.

Currently, I am taking my own advice and eating according to my blood type. I feel pretty amazing about it, because it doesn’t feel hard or unnatural. It feels very natural for me because most of the things I don’t like to eat are on my Do NOT eat list! In my personal experience of going vegan for a year and ignoring my blood type, I completely messed up my body's natural hormonal balance.

I developed what is known as “Hormonal Belly” which made me look permanently pregnant, and I could not lose the weight directly around my mid-section no matter what I did. After trying waist training, core training, and bitter apple cider vinegar drinks, I returned to the Blood Type Diet to inquire what type of meat would be best for me to consume daily.

For AB positive types, we should eat Lamb, Seafood, and Turkey, NOT chicken, beef, or pork. That information resonated within my soul because I quit eating pork over twenty years ago. Chicken and beef made my menses and PMS symptoms unbearable with painful cramps and migraines. However, once I adopted a more plant-based diet, and let go of eating red meat and chicken, all of those symptoms then disappeared.

Changing your eating habits really can change your life. Especially in the forever changing times that we live in. Health and wellbeing are more important to maintain than ever.

Convinced about finding your Blood type diet yet? Here are some ways to find your blood type, so that you can begin the process of healing your body and in the long run, losing stubborn weight, and gaining more energy.

1. Give Blood or Plasma - if you have donated a few times, they test the blood for various things including type. Ask them for the information.

2. Military - if you are prior or active duty military, this information is in your medical record. Follow protocol, set up an appointment with your primary doctor and ask them for the information.

3. At Home Blood Draw Tests - I would not endorse the accuracy of these tests because I have never tried them, but it's worth a try. The tests seem to be fairly inexpensive on Amazon.com.

Once you know your Blood Type, visit Dr. Peter D'Adamo's website at https://dadamo.com. He is the creator of the information, but in my opinion, you will find more info if you Google "Blood type diet for (insert your Blood Type)". I pulled a food list created by the INTEGRATIVE Naturopathic Medical Centre in Vancouver and printed out the PDF version.

My personal results from eating the diet is improved energy, and my clothes fit looser. I haven't lost any significant weight, as I started eating meat again about 30 days ago. However, I would encourage everyone to research their blood type diet. Putting the right things into your body can also be considered a form of self-love. Take a chance on the Blood Type Diet. I definitely recommend it!
