GENE KEY 10: Self-Obsession/ Naturalness/ Being

It is in our nature to be self-obsessed. It is a survival instinct. At the gift frequency we are able to balance this in turn it into self-love. At the shadow frequency we are like Narcissus and all we can do is stare in to the pond at our own reflection. This focus on the individual is core to our evolution – we need to discover our own identity and uniqueness in order to accept others and their differences. The more we allow ourselves to be 'different' the more we are able to accept the differences of others and realise we are all one.

The shadow of self-obsession makes us obsessed with our own uniqueness, how to discover it and follow it. The search to find out who you 'truly' are becomes all-consuming and paradoxically, prevents you from defining who you are because you become 'defined' by the 'journey' you are on. This is when the shadow state descends into an endless labyrinth , an addiction that whilst you believe you are on a journey further and further inwards, you are in fact becoming trapped in your own reflection.

Although we can see ourselves reflected in others in this state, we cannot accept the aspects of them that we dislike as aspects of ourselves. All we can see is how much we would like THEM to change rather than accept them for their uniqueness. Even though you might feel that you can relate to others, it becomes very hard for them to relate to you.

This path is circuitous but at some point the realisation that what you are searching for can never be found occurs. And it is at this moment that the gift of naturalness is revealed - where you are able to just BE yourself without effort as you fall deep into the very centre of your being. It is in this state that you understand that you cannot be defined by any kind of label: your name, your actions, your thoughts, your feelings, your beliefs – none of these define you. Human nature is something far greater that you ever suspected.

This process begins with the questions along the lines of who am I? Why am I here? What is the purpose of all this? As we question the purpose and meaning of life. From here we enter a period of isolation where we question everything and try to understand our own nature more. This period often lasts a long time and when you finally emerge from this 'cocoon' you and your world are almost unrecognisable. It is during this phase we fall in love with the endless quest for self-knowledge and risk getting stuck in the shadow of self-obsession. Happily though, this has a natural collapse at a certain point In which you let go of all searching as you realise the futility of trying to define something that is, of its nature, indefinable.

This moment is the release from your self-obsession as you let go of all the constructs with which you previously identified and from which, you derived security. All attempts to define yourself subside. The gift of naturalness emerges as a sense of freedom and space, you lose your need to identify with anything specific and at the same time start to feel more centred as you release the need to hold onto anything to help you find that centre of balance. A sense of ease and relaxedness emerges.

Finally there is a sense of rebirth as you start to externalise what is inside of you for the first time in your life. This brings with it a sense of deep joy and purpose and start to feel relaxed and 'natural' as you begin to embody your true self. This is the flowering of your individuated self. You hit peak 'you' and being something entirely new into the world based on everything that has ever lain inside of you. This isn't necessarily easy at first, as it challenges the norms around you. That is because your true nature is always at the cutting edge of evolution. Naturalness is there and releases itself the moment you decide to stop arguing with it.

At this point we are able to just 'be'. It is almost a return to the stage where we were before we asked, who am I? When the Siddhi of being dawns in an individual their evolution has ended as the differentiated self spontaneously dissolves into pure being, pure consciousness, sometimes understood as I AM consciousness.

To experience life through the 19th siddhi of being is to see life as a great game and recognise that everything we give importance to is just an illusion. In a world where we are called more and more to focus on, even to 'hustle' for our evolution, it reminds us that this is all a game, one in which even our ambition to become 'enlightened' is ultimately meaningless. It is perceived as a form of 'laziness' to just be rather than pursue our own evolution but truly being is one of the highest states we can reach, to rest, unattached and allow.
