Each week when I do these readings I set up my reading space with black fabric (for the photo, mostly but it also allows for and smooth, calm space to focus on the cards) make sure I have undisturbed quiet time; dogs are out, husband is at work/play/store/whatever, phone is off, etc… I begin with a quick grounding meditation and settle into a centered peace to ask for guidance in choosing the cards which will be most appropriate for the week ahead. I shuffle the cards with my intent in mind and spread them in a dealer’s “ribbon spread”. Then with eyes closed, I ask for the Center card, the West card and finally, the East card, reaching out to the spread, touching the cards and choosing the one that feels most fully under my finger tip, then sliding them into their positions. Before opening my eyes I return to a calm, centered state and do my best to sense whether the three cards I’ve chosen are the most fitting for the highest and best for all involved. Only then do I turn them face up and photograph them for the reading. There are times when I see the three cards before me and groan or breathe a sigh of relief but I always use the cards I’ve selected ”blindly”.

That said;

Like last week, we’re dealing with three Minor Arcana cards so we’re still reworking the details that were shaken out by larger life changes. On one hand, details can be tedious work that seems to have little reward. But on the other, we have a chance now to work on the intricacy and deeper meanings of our passions and desires. To make sure we’re creating what brings us joy. Not what will please those around us, but what will create joy in our own core that we can follow as we work on our projects, relationships, health, career and so on.

The Center card this week is the 10 of Wands.

The first of our three Minor Arcana cards, this ten represents an apex within the fire element and is our central energy for the week. As with all the tens, we reach a point of realization and achievement. We’re at a plateau of our fiery ideals and intentions and we’re finding ways to maneuver and mold them to a level clear and strong enough for successful implementation. When we’re dealing with the Wands we’re using our will, our desire and our capacity to create. Fire illuminates, clarifies and strengthens. It also burns, which is useful when dealing with extraneous or unnecessary details but can also sometimes be painful, stripping away practices or routines that have become familiar. Even if we know our routines are unhealthy or exercises in futility or just plain boring they can easily become habits. When we shift our focus to change a habit there’s often a feeling of void when it’s gone. In a way we go through a feeling of “loss”. This week, however, the feelings of pleasure in seeing our ideas gelling and ready to take form should outweigh any feeling of emptiness in the wake of the loss of a habit that’s no longer useful or needed.

The West card is the 4 of Wands

Another Fire card and affirmation that there is a part or parts of our intentions and designs which have become fulfilled. The fours often speak of times of rest and recognition. We get to a slow period. We finish part of a project ahead of time but now must wait until any other working parts catch up. This time of stasis can be a good opportunity to look back at how far we’ve come or make final checks and adjustments. I like that we have a chance early in the week to look back at our creations, projects, relationships, plans and ideals to see the forward progress we’re making and remind ourselves of the reasons we chose the paths we did.

The East card is the 3 of Pentacles.

The Pentacles are symbols of the Earth element, our physicality. Our ability to bring our will and desires from idea to reality is strong now. We’re ready to do the job, whatever it takes, to make things work. Whether it’s a relationship that needs attention, communication or even closure or a creative project; that sweater you’ve been meaning to finish, the garage that needs cleaning or that class you’ve wanted to take, exercise plan or letter to write, by week’s end the urge to get down to it nudges (okay, maybe shoves) us into action. We feel good about putting in an effort. Particularly if we’ve been procrastinating, the energy for the weekend has a determination to it that has us wanting to DO something.

In conclusion;

This week we have a chance to spend some quality time with our own desires. Slow movement early on gives us a chance to review our choices, our prep work on physical projects plus any emotions that may be ready for examination. As a result of our renewed clarity about what we found in taking a step back to look, we begin to take on the work of correlating our intentions with our possibilities and sorting out what works best. These three cards together seem to give us a challenge to be honest with ourselves about what we truly desire and the ways in which we can weave our choices together to create a tightly woven fabric of our intentions. We can take a look at what’s really going on around us and decide what components to put to use and which “habits” we’re ready to thresh off like chaff to find the tender grain of contentment within.

Have a determined week.

Light, Tory

TIP for the week: Socrates believed that living a life where you live under the rules of others, in a continuous routine without examining what you actually want out of life is not worth living. Hence the quote “An unexamined life is not worth living.”
