Free Weekly Reading #1 for 2022

Each week when I do these readings I set up my reading space with black fabric (for the photo, mostly but it also allows for and smooth, calm space to focus on the cards) make sure I have undisturbed quiet time; dogs are out, husband is at work/play/store/whatever, phone is off, etc… I begin with a quick grounding meditation and settle into a centered peace to ask for guidance in choosing the cards which will be most appropriate for the week ahead. I shuffle the cards with my intent in mind and spread them in a dealer’s “ribbon spread”. Then with eyes closed, I ask for the Center card, the West card and finally, the East card, reaching out to the spread, touching the cards and choosing the one that feels most fully under my finger tip, then sliding them into their positions. Before opening my eyes I return to a calm, centered state and do my best to sense whether the three cards I’ve chosen are the most fitting for the highest and best for all involved. Only then do I turn them face up and photograph them for the reading. There are times when I see the three cards before me and groan or breathe a sigh of relief but I always use the cards I’ve selected ”blindly”.

That said;

The Center Card for this week is The Star.

This card is often seen as the calm after the storm. We’ve been through the wringer that is The Tower and now that it’s over everything looks and is different. For the women out there who’ve given birth, the feeling of The Tower/The Star is a bit like labor and delivery. When I was pregnant with my son, I knew that labor would inevitably happen and it was a pretty scary thought. The pregnancy itself was a great change and then the labor began. I was completely at the mercy of my body and the birthing process, and like The Tower (the card which precedes The Star) the only option is to roll with it and do the best you can to ride out the process. Once the child was born, after the pushing and stretching and pain, holding that tiny, squirming, squalling, wrinkly bundle changed my entire view of life, self and existence. The experience of love I felt was so far beyond and unlike anything I’d ever known it felt like I was the one who’d been born. The world around me, the people I knew, the place I lived hadn’t changed but I had and that change allowed me to see all the things in my life very differently. The Star shows us the truth of who we are after the walls of status, intellect, societal structure are torn down and destroyed or otherwise blown apart. We get to see the sunrise after a dark and difficult night.

The West card is the Ace of Pentacles.

This ace is the representation of physicality and form -earth element- in its purest iteration. As we take the first steps and make the first decisions about this new year we can see the seeds and possibilities of our reality very clearly. Instead of going from A to L or R in one step, we see the necessity and beauty of the interim steps of B, C, D, etc. It’s all well and good to see our dreams as completion but if we hop in the car and set out on a journey without learning how to drive, the resulting trip can be disastrous. This card shows us that there is opportunity, excitement and joy in each part of the process of manifestation. The Pentacles are about making things real, making things happen, bringing our ideas and dreams from concept to reality and the Ace shows us how to begin.

The East card is the Prince of Pentacles.

It’s great to see this card as part of the triad. I see the Princes as the adolescent boys of the Tarot. They’re the daredevils and the risk takers. They find joy in challenging the status quo of whatever they’re focused on. These intrepid folks can be reckless and leap into things without studying the plans or reading the recipe and that can have calamitous results but the courage to go beyond what’s already known is where the future is. If early explorers had just gone with the popular belief that the world was flat they, and consequently the rest of us, never would have found new lands, new people and new experiences.

In Conclusion;

As we look ahead to 2022 with the strength and tenacity gained in the last two very world-changing, status challenging years, we begin to recognize the truth of who we are when faced with adversity. With the structure of our lives changed and the bold and daring things we’ve done to balance our expectations and outcomes, the seeds of a new reality begin to germinate, set roots and put up tenuous shoots that we can see. This is a perfect time to be honest with ourselves. Not just about what we might have done better or how we could have escaped the tough things we faced but the real courage we found and the strength of conviction that showed in our ability to handle what the Universe set forth as challenges. We’ve endured a lot and are changed because of it. What a perfect time to reflect and decide how we move forward with new plans and the wisdom gained from difficult times.

Have a week of renewed vision and calm determination.

Light, Tory
