I’m sure many of you would have heard of the term ‘fad diet’. Fad diets are actually trendy weight loss plans. They are very tempting to follow because they promise dramatic results in a short span of time.

More often than not, these diets are not healthy and they don’t result in long term weight loss. There will always be a relapse of weight gain. Majority of the times, these diets are also detrimental to health.

Unlike fad diets, there are many ways to lose weight healthily. These ways also produce fast results and result in long term weight loss without relapse. It may be difficult at first but the results are always worth it.

DO NOT SKIP MEALS

The worst thing you can do while trying to lose weight is skipping meals. It has just the opposite effect of what you want. Skipping meals lowers metabolism which promotes weight gain. You need to have at least three regular meals every day.

CALORIE DEFICIT IS THE KEY

Many people think eating lesser food is the best way to lose weight. However, the correct and healthy way is consuming lesser calories. Two Oreo cookies which have 105 calories will not satiate your hunger whereas sixteen strawberries which only have 96 calories will satiate your hunger. Fruits and vegetables have the least calories compared to other food groups.

QUIT SNACKING IN BETWEEN MEALS

Do not have snacks in between meals. The main problem with most snacks and junk food is that they are usually less filling and contain a lot of fat and calories.

SNACK ON VEGETABLES/FRUITS IF YOU MUST

You might get the hunger pangs in between meals. It is something that you can very well control. If it gets too hard, try munching on carrots or grapes. Snack on your most favourite fruit or vegetable.

INCREASE YOUR FIBER INTAKE

Our body needs a lot of fiber. Apart from maintaining healthy bowel movement, fiber also helps the body to get rid of extra fats. So try to include as many fruits and vegetables as you can in your diet.

CHOOSE FRESH FRUITS INSTEAD OF CANNED FRUITS

Canned fruits do not have as much fiber as fresh fruits because of the processes that they undergo before canning and they are nearly always very much sweetened.

GO CRAZY ON VEGETABLES

Vegetables are your best bet when it comes to losing weight fast. Nature has a terrific spread when it comes to choosing vegetables. And the leafy green vegetables are your best bet. Try to include a salad in your meals daily.

METHOD OF COOKING PLAYS A HUGE ROLE

The most favoured method of eating fish or chicken is fried. Frying is the most unhealthy way to cook any food. It depletes the foods nutrients and increases the calories. Instead of frying, try healthier method of cooking. A few examples include steaming, grilling, roasting and poaching.

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER

Water helps boost metabolism which in turn will make losing weight easier. We need at least 2 liters of water daily for our body to function optimally. Whenever you feel hungry, just drink water. It’s killing two birds with one stone because you won’t feel hungry anymore and you can easily reach your water consumption target.

HAVE MEALS AT A FIXED TIME DAILY

Try to have food at fixed times of the day. You can stretch these times by plus minus 30 minutes, but anything more than that is going to affect your eating pattern. This will result in your metabolism being affected. The lower the metabolism rate, the tougher it will be to lose weight.

SAY NO TO JUNK FOOD, FAST FOOD AND SUGARY FOOD

Remember that these foods generally have way more calories. It is natural that we have cravings especially for chocolates, potato chips and other high calorie food. Willpower and dedication is really important here if you’re serious about losing weight.

EAT ONLY WHEN YOU ARE HUNGRY

Some of us have the tendency to eat whenever we see food. We use parties as an excuse to stuff ourselves. Understand that the effect of a whole week of dieting can be wasted by just one day’s party food. Whenever you are offered something to eat, do not decline it completely but just take a small portion of it so that you appear to mind your manners and at the same time can watch your diet.



'No pain, no gain'


These are not only the fastest and healthiest ways to lose weight but also the cheapest. You don’t have to spend loads of money of weight loss supplements. These supplements come with fast results and long term side effects which are very detrimental to health. Just stick to the natural way. That’s how we should love our body.

    I found it was easier to maintain my weight when I lived alone. Now surrounded by all these aliens who eat all types of crap, it is so hard to resist the unhealthy delicious stuff.
