Hey, now that’s a way to walk into a hotel room

Adulting—one of the things we wish we could play hookie from, am I right? We all have schedules, we have obligations, but do we ever just have that moment of “my time”? To gain the momentary values we treasure that never seem to last long enough, we go through the typical routine. If we want to go on a date, we got to get a babysitter. If we want to have the weekend off, we have to use our PTO/COMP time. If we want to take a vacation, we have to do both. It’s frustrating. It’s annoying. It’s overwhelming—why? You have to count down the weeks, the days, the hours just to have some solitude of sanity to your chaos. So why not have a little unplanned fun?

Picture this! Take your significant other out for a night on the town. Play sick, and call out. Got some paid-time-off time? Use for tonight! Not of you share the night off? Let’s go! But where are we going for just tonight? What are we doing? I’m gonna get hungry later. What if we both want to drink, who’s driving? What makes this night so different. Hey—don’t worry, I got you covered. Check it out:

1.) A hotel room—wait what??

You read right! Get a hotel room near the downtown area, near corporate America, on the outskirts of town, or even a little cabin in the woods. Have your “my time” with a pause button to control your time. After all, adulting is hard, that’s why they say play harder.

2.) Ok, so we both aren’t driving.

Now personally, I prefer using Lyft if I plan on indulging in some adult drinks (usually fruity, but Uber is just as good. Think about it, someone is going to drive you around, so you can relax! Have a drink or two. Or maybe shots. If you don’t drink, that’s cool too! Enjoy being able to just not have to do a damn thing!

3.) I’ve never eaten here before.

We’re humans. We love food. We love all sorts of food. We have our favorite restaurants, and favorite dishes. Ok—let’s not be predictable tonight. Hey what’s that Cuban place over there? Let’s try it. Try something different. Try something fun. Try something new. Yes, we naturally fear the term something new, but it’s how we learn about other creations and things. C'mon, live a little.

4.) I like what you’ve done to the hotel room.

As you saw in the picture above. If it’s you and a significant other, doing something very memorable that, believe it or not, is very inexpensive! Buy their favorite candies and make a cute little lopsided heart, get some chocolate covered strawberries, light a few tea light candles, and throw billions of fake rose pedals all over the floor. Messy, well yeah, but under $20 to do. But if you’re single? Go run you a hot bath or shower and play some relaxing music from your phone. Hey, if you got a portable speaker, bring that too! My personal favorite is taking a hot bath and then coming into a cold room. Best time to make yourself a human burrito with the blankets.

5.) You know what? That’s just what I needed.

Lastly, sleep in! Well as much as you can of course. But request a late check out, take yourself to breakfast/brunch, and have a go getter attitude for the day.

The point of this is not to see how much money you can sling, what fancy places you can take someone or yourself to. Pay attention folks, memories are the one thing that no one will ever be able to buy. Whatever you create is sacred gold. And no one will ever be able to take it from you. These are 5 simple steps to remind you that you can pause time and catch your breath. I mean there are millions and trillions of people on this earth! They won’t miss you for playing hookie tonight. Wait—why are you still reading this?? Go! I’m about to do the same myself. Literally.
