Even Though It Hurts…
Be willing to say I’m sorry, I love you, forgive me, you were right, I was wrong, I was abused, I need help, I’m afraid, I won’t stand for this any longer.
What appears to be our greatest weakness is that which is in actuality our greatest strength.
Raised by a single mom of five boys our house was always filled with a ruckus I don’t remember a single night we were able to go to sleep without being whipped, “stop touching my leg” “you stop touching my leg” mom “alright in there, if I hear another peep I’m coming in there!” “I said stop touching me” and here comes mom with the belt night, after night, this went on and you’d think the whipping was the hard part oh no the hardest thing we had to endure was to hear mom saying those dreaded words “now tell your brother you’re sorry” well you might a well gouged our eyes out with hot spears.
I remember one time my brother burst into tears because he did not want to say I’m sorry I was wrong to his big brother.
After many relationships some lasting a week others 10 days or 5 to 10 years the one thing that seems to have not alluded me was the inability to say I’m sorry, I was wrong, this isn’t working for me or I’m not in love with you, I just like having sex with you.
Today, however, I’ve come to understand the importance of saying I’m sorry even though it hurts, to be truly authentic is an absolute requirement not just with the other person but with myself.
I discovered emotional vulnerability was in reality our superpower. You see in order for us to keep another person at bay it also prevented us from connecting and seeing in. It prevents us from sensing those subtle cues or the red flags that matter later down the line in the relationship and we look back 10 years and discover we were never truly in love. Imagine ten years wasted. Oh sure there’s a lesson there and be sure there is, it’s called being honest with yourself from the jump to never do that again.
One of the greatest life lessons in the words of a song is “Just to love and be loved in return”. So much is missed in the moment being guarded, jaded, and cold as ice. It may look good to some to be able to walk without a spot or wrinkle but trust that same lesson will come back around again and again until we get it.
Some of us go great lengths to avoid being vulnerable especially in today's client being labeled a “snowflake” “weak” “sissy” “cold” or a “bitch” in some circles these words are seen as offensive or compliments depending on which serves us best.
The lesson as I mentioned early if we don’t get it the first time will come back around in a different body, different job, boss, or circumstance but trust around again it will come, just keep on living as my mom used to say.
So why not grab hold of this truth and get ahead of the game by completely embracing who we are as an individualized expression of the Divine. We are here as spiritual being having human experiences and that’s not possible without being all of who we are. There are qualities and experiences you possess and go through that only you can your unique expression that is tailor made for someone else to hear and experience through you. Jesus said “my sheep know my voice” however if he kept quiet those very same sheep would have starved to death or been eaten alive but ravenously wolves on the prowl seeking whom they may devour.
By seeing our “weakness” as a “superpower” we are empowered to change the course of lives as well as be a force to reckon with in our communities and possibly our world.
So the next time someone asks how are you feeling or what do feel about this situation trust and know in that moment, it was no coincidence this person asked me this question how I’m in this moment is the reason I came into this person’s life or even to the planet. Take a deep breath and answer the question from your heart, it will feel like your being is on fire just as you are about to answer the question. Palpable is a better word for how this feels and you can have this feeling all the time, it’s what keeps the sparks flying in friendships, relationships, marriages, and relationships on all levels whether business or personal. Even though it hurts, say it. Even though it hurts express how you truly feel that may grow into the beautiful being you were meant to be.
This above all to thine on SELF be true… Polonius
