The Seven of Cups in this position suggests you may be experiencing a period of indulgence today. You may, for instance, be letting go of some structure and rules in your life. This may be something you need to do in order to redress an imbalance following a period of hard work. It may, however, be causing a degree of chaos in your life—for example, if you are neglecting some responsibilities or letting someone down. There is probably no need to be concerned if your indulgences aren't habitual. However, if you often find yourself drawn to reckless behavior which makes your life feel out of control or causes you problems, you may need to address this and any underlying issues which might be causing it.

A loss of structure

The Seven of Cups represents a world of indulgence, where all our fantasies can come true and all our desires can be met. It is the world of the all-night party, of living today as if there were no consequences to face tomorrow; of extravagance and satisfaction of all our desires. The problem with escaping from life's seeming dreariness comes when the pendulum swings too far the other way. We can potentially indulge our fantasies to such an extent that they become our reality; or we may enjoy our disorganized state to the point that our world becomes confused and we forget what is important and needs prioritizing in our lives or what we once valued.

If you want to bring peace to yourself and to those around you, you need to act as the Empress does, with compassion and understanding. If you find yourself in a situation where you feel frustrated by those around you, just remember you don't need to change anyone. Just learn to love them and watch them change before your eyes. This love especially applies to yourself. Learn how to treat yourself with compassion and you too can be transformed.

Consider other people

In the Tarot deck there is both an Emperor and an Empress. The difference between them is that the Empress rules her dominion in a more feminine way. She is the mother of the nation. Her approach is to look after and care for her subjects as if they were her own children. She is both compassionate and forgiving. She believes that the way to get the most out of people is to nurture and care for them and that this is the only responsible way for anyone in authority to behave. The Empress urges us to look at our own lives and the way we treat the people around us. Do we always act with compassion and understanding? This card also asks us to extend compassion to ourselves, which for many can be the hardest lesson to take from The Empress.

You could find yourself in situations which you don't really understand or for which you don't feel you have the life tools required. However, if you can remember that most of the resources you need in life can be found within yourself you should be able to face these challenges with grace and serenity. Try to look at any difficulties as your learning opportunities and difficult people as your teachers. This will help you to learn the lessons necessary more quickly and effortlessly and open you up to new horizons in your life.
