COVID-19 Day 5 of Lockdown

and More Days To Go

I think it’s the 5th day of the lock-down and I know that it will still be long before everything went back to normal. From where I am, it’s pretty abnormal. People around here are out-going. They like to just stay outside their homes since it’s hot inside. But corona virus seems to change everything.

The usual noisy streets suddenly went quiet. No more vehicles are passing by as much as before. Honestly, it felt great not to deal with the noise. But the quietness and stillness of the night are a bit scary. I don’t hear the usual sound anymore from five days before the lock-down happens.

Everybody is now under quarantine. Nobody is allowed to get out of the house anymore. Except if you have to buy food. The government officials provided each home a quarantined pass to only one representative per household. We have to bring it even if we just have to buy something from the store across the street.

Checking the COVID-19 update online every day, it can get a little scary. There are more people infected in our country alone. Living in the Philippines gets harder than ever. You are scared of what will happen to your family. Not because of the virus pandemic anymore but because you might end up dying in starvation.

It seems now that almost every business is closed. A lot of people around my area lost their jobs. Since there is no way they can work from home, it gets harder to even get their last paychecks from their employers. It’s hard not to think about other people who don’t even have food to serve on their tables.

I feel so blessed that I am working from home even before it happens. I don’t have to even feel the difference of not being able to freely go out. Staying at home is my life already. That’s why I can say that I am fully adjusted to the situation. Although, it’s hard not to think about other people. How are they coping up?

There are a lot of people who make a living by driving public transportation. But they seem to be non-existent anymore these past few days. All of a sudden, the only thing that they know how to make a living for themselves and their family was just gone. They have to stay at home now and try to find another way to survive.

Most of my neighbors are working from the factory nearby. Now, they are all just staying at home and have no other way to make a living. How can you even buy some food if you no longer have some money to buy it? It’s worse than getting affected by natural disasters. Right now, we all don’t know when will this ends. That makes it even scarier.

Today is Day 5 of the lock-down. It makes a lot of difference especially when you check outside from your window. You cannot even see a single person walking down the streets. When I went outside earlier to buy some food from the grocery, I overheard one official giving a warning to the other one. Somebody seems to be straying a bit and they have to stop him.

Basically, every move we make is now monitored. So it’s hard to say when most people can tolerate what’s happening now. You also have to make sure to just have one destination if you have to get outside. Buy what you and your family need. Then you have to go straight back home. No more looking at other stores anymore.

I wonder what will happen in the next days to come. Since everybody is under quarantine, it’s hard to stay calm especially if you no longer have enough supply at home. The sad part is, you cant even get help from some friends or family from another place. Since they too are experiencing the same lock-down period as you do.

It’s a worldwide pandemic and it’s hard not being able to do something about it. The best thing you can do is just hope and pray that this will be over soon. That there will be a cure to stop the corona virus from affecting so many people. Then appreciate your life and be thankful that you are still healthy and alive after all these.
