Asthenospermia refers to the low vitality of male sperm due to various adverse factors affecting male fertility. Suppose you want to have a healthy baby. In that case, you need healthy sperm to pass through the barrier of the vagina, uterus, and fallopian tube and reach the ampulla of the fallopian tube to suppose like the egg.

Suppose the quality of male sperm is poor and vital. In that case, it will not reach the fallopian tube to complete the fertilization process and even lead to male infertility, which will hit the confidence of men.

When a man is examined before pregnancy or has symptoms of infertility, the doctor usually recommends a semen examination. It is best to abstain from 3 to 7 tests in the study.

Generally, we will divide semen activity into four grades: a, b, c, and d. Rate a indicates that semen activity is excellent and moves forward in a short and straight line. Grade B means good. Although the speed is not as fast as Grade A semen, it can still move forward in a straight line. Grade C means general activity ability and can only move forward in a curve. However, grade d means poor activity and can only wriggle in situ.

Asthenospermia refers to the results of three consecutive routine semen tests suggesting that the forward movement (a+b) is less than 50% or the semen with rapid straight forward movement (a) is less than 25%. At the same time, other parameters are usually normal. If the survival rate is less than 50% within 1 hour after male ejaculation, laboratory or other auxiliary examinations can detect genital tract infection or other diseases that affect the viability, it can also be diagnosed as asthenospermia.

So, what is the cause of asthenospermia?

1. Abnormal semen liquefaction: male semen mainly includes sperm and seminal plasma. Seminal plasma is primarily composed of secretions from testicles and reproductive tract glands. In addition to fructose, protein, and fat, it also contains a variety of enzymes and inorganic salts. It is an essential medium for transporting semen and can provide energy and nutrients for semen.

After the male discharges, with good motility, it moves forward in a straight line in the seminal plasma, ensuring that it can reach the fallopian tube and combine with the egg at the best time. Once the semen is not liquefied, or its viscosity is too high, it will limit the ability to move forward, leading to the condition's occurrence.

2. Autoimmune factors: once anti-sperm antibodies are produced in the male body, its vitality will be affected accordingly. The main reason is that anti-sperm antibodies can combine with the tail, which obstructs forward movement and the corresponding deterioration of penetration ability, leading to asthenospermia.

3. Endocrine factors: Endocrine hormones in men are related to the occurrence and maturation and affect their motility. Studies have shown that men's high testosterone levels and estradiol levels will inhibit movement. In contrast, low prolactin levels lead to impaired sperm oxygen uptake, resulting in low motility and asthenospermia.

4. Reproductive system infection: When the male genital tract and glands are infected, such as epididymitis, prostatic hyperplasia, etc., the albumin and PH value will also change, and the local temperature of the testicle will also be too high, which will affect the vitality and lead to asthenospermia.

5. Chromosome abnormality: male chromosome abnormality will affect its production and movement ability. If the ultrastructure device related to movement is abnormal, it will limit movement ability and cause asthenospermia.

In addition to the above reasons, men's lousy living habits are also one of the main reasons. Irregular work and rest, smoking and alcohol abuse, sauna and hot spring bathing, and the need to work at high temperatures for a long time or sit for a long time due to work reasons are all factors.

How long does it take to treat asthenospermia?

With the worsening of men's living habits, smoking, drinking, and staying up late, asthenospermia has become one of the important reasons for infertility. Because it dramatically impacts male fertility, every man should always consider whether he has this condition.

Asthenospermia usually refers to three consecutive routine semen examinations. The results indicate that the survival rate is less than 50%, the motility of grade a sperm (fast-forward moving) is less than 25%, and grade a+b (slow-ahead moving) is less than 50%. However, if the percentage of A-grade is minor, usually the more severe the condition is, and the probability of pregnancy is much lower than that of mild condition.

Therefore, because the severity of the condition varies from person to person, and the causes are also different, the treatment time varies from person to person.

If the disease is caused by genital tract infection, as long as the cause of illness is found and anti-infection treatment is carried out, the disease will be relieved. The common one is the Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill, a patented Chinese medicine from Li Xiaoping's TCM clinic.

If anti-sperm antibodies are produced due to immune factors, they can be treated with immune agents. If it is caused by exposure to radiation, high temperature, and other environments, the sperm vitality will gradually improve after being away from these adverse environments.
