In my acquaintances, I came across a young lady who used to babysit me sometimes when my mum would be busy doing her shifts. Recently she had delivered a beautiful baby girl, sadly, after two miscarriages. I were curious about her situation. Of course , all this sounded highly interesting to me. When asked, I learned that she has APLA , expanded as Antiphospholipid Syndrome. Now few of you might be familiar with this long biological term.

APLA an autoimmune disease , mostly found in ladies between 20-50, and 5 times more than men, can last for years or be lifelong. An autoimmune disease is one in which your antibodies began attacking healthy parts of your body, sometimes even damaging your organs. In APLA, the proteins or antibodies combine with fats and causes blockages in arteries and vein. Sadly no cure to treat it permanently has been discovered.

The clots formed can be found in brain, kidneys, legs, lungs, often causing trouble to pregnant ladies. The lady i talked to revealed, she had to take blood thinning injections on a regular basis, and 150 mg aspirin tablet so that blood can reach to the fetus, through placenta. Without these thinners there would be no supply of blood to the baby due to the clots in blood, which eventually lead to her miscarriages. Generally, it is diagnosed after stillbirth or miscarriages.

Swelling in limbs and body part is also characterized. This lady has huge foot and calves, when asked she explained because of APLA. She also faced difficulties while conceiving the baby. Some people even suffer from rashes , she said no rashes appeared on her skin, but ulcers have been bothering her. If the case gets worsened it even leads to infertility.

She complained about having shortness of breath. Further added -" It was so easy for me to run 4-5 km at once without facing breathless, but now its impossible for mw to walk a km straight, or climb few stairs. It really makes your body weak."

When asked more she told its usual for her to experience tremendous joint pains. Painkillers are helpful . She experiences low blood pressure, irritation at times, and cant put up with much workload.

Testing is done through blood samples. And of course, your doctor knows better. The young lady had developed swollen limbs, intense joint pain, heavy breath forgetful memory, anxiety, and vision problems as prime effects of APLA. Clots appear on legs, mainly calf known as Deep Vein Thrombosis. Some even develop ulcers or rashes.

But now the question is its a very rare disease, so what are the reasons it might be happening? Well medical science says High Blood pressure, High cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, or taking birth control pills. It sometimes happens due to family history.

But there's good news at the end. Ladies with APLA, still can get pregnant, taking blood thinner everyday. Do not loose hope. Every cloud has a silver lining. I get to know babies are born healthy. It's a rare disease, but all well that ends well. This was just a little conversation with an APLA positive i wanted to share. Prefer seeing your doctor, if dear lord may be never, such conditions arrive. Remember people don't prioritize articles for medical cases. This was an informative write-up . But, if you people see any different and unusual changes see your doctor rather than reading a google article.
