An Essential Guide to Essential Oils
Personal Favorites & Recommendations for Students
Essential oils have become a growing trend in today’s society. I’ve never actually considered using them until about 6 months ago. I quickly realized how much using these oils in your everyday routine can change your life. As a future college student, I believe that others like me should realize the benefits of using these natural oils and how it can help you daily. Here are some of my personal favorites and why.
Peppermint Oil
Aside from reminding you of the holiday season, peppermint oil has so many benefits. I personally suffer from headaches and migraines and some drops of peppermint oil on my head immediately eases the pain. Rubbing peppermint oil on your stomach is also great for relieving cramps. Peppermint also increases your focus and ability to pay attention to things. Adding some drops into a diffuser while studying is a great way to keep your mind clear and focused.
Eucalyptus Oil
I absolutely love using eucalyptus when I’m stuffy or sick. Eucalyptus automatically clears your sinuses and helps you to breathe better. When flu season comes around, it is perfect for that stuffy and runny nose as you are ready to take on your day. It is great for helping with sleep as well and for sore muscles and pain relief. After long days of practice or rehearsal, it is a perfect solution to help your body and mind recover.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is an all time favorite for my skin!! It is so great for clearing acne as well as maintaining your skin’s moisture. You can apply it by itself or mix it with a carrier oil such as coconut oil and gently rub it onto your skin. Tea tree oil is also beneficial for your hair. It nourishes your roots and eliminates a dry scalp. It additionally revitalizes your hair and helps your hair to grow healthily.
Lavender Oil
Lavender oil is great for baths or for when you simply just want to relax. Its gentle aroma puts your mind at ease and gives you a chance to take a break from life. It’s great for reducing anxiety and stress and also improves brain function. Lavender oil is also great for improving your sleep.
Frankincense Oil
This is another favorite oil for when you want to sleep! Sleep is so important for students in order to have maximum performance. Similar to lavender, frankincense is a great oil to reduce anxiety and depression and is good for calming the mind. It aids preventing insomnia and results in a deep and refreshing good night’s sleep. Frankincense is one of my absolute favorites because it instantly relaxes me and causes me to easily fall asleep and be ready to take on the next day!
Some people prefer their essential oils directly applied to their skin—which is no problem at all! Others prefer to put a couple drops into a diffuser which releases the scent every few minutes. Diffusers also enable you to mix oils to create new fragrances while they perform multiple benefits. I shopped around for many diffusers and have returned quite a few that I haven’t liked. Currently, I am using the one linked above and it is fantastic! It is inexpensive and does the job while also providing a cool ambiance of different colors to switch back and forth from. It is a great choice for beginners and students who want the benefits of essential oils in their lifestyle.
I personally love this brand and they are also 100 percent pure. You can buy your essential oils in sets or individually, depending on how much you are willing to spend. For beginners, I recommend buying a nice set of oils so you can try each and then pick and choose which ones you love most.
Of course, these oils are only a handful of what you can get and use. I encourage all of you reading this to do your own research and discover what other oils will benefit you and help your lifestyle. As we venture on back to school and college, there’s no doubt that we will be back to the busy-ness and the hustle and bustle of life. Utilizing essential oils in your everyday routines can boost your health and your mindset and ultimately change your life in a positive way.
