Stress is often referred to as the silent killer. It's hard to deal with daily tasks, bills, work and various other contributing stress factors. However, you don't have to let stress rule your life. If you observe people who rarely get stressed, they have certain habits that reduce their stress levels.

In this article, we are going to outline 13 habits of people who rarely get stressed.

Firstly, let's talk about some of the negative side effects of stress:

According to WebMD, stress can cause various health problems. Here are some of the problems associated with high stress.

✅Low mood

✅Low energy

✅Migraines

✅Chronic pain

✅Sleep problems

✅Weak immune system

✅Depression

✅Acne

✅Obesity

✅Premature ageing

Just remember that everyone is different when it comes to how you react to stress. Focus on your own stress reactions and find ways to reduce your stress levels to live a healthier, happier life.

1. Positive Thinking

People who rarely get stressed often look on the bright side of life. They are optimistic and they look at most things in a positive way.

“Be positive. Your mind is more powerful than you think. What is down in the well comes up in the bucket. Fill yourself with positive things.” – Tony Dungy

Positive thoughts can change your whole mood. The world renowned personal development coach Tony Robbins says that when you have a negative thought, instantly replace that negative thought with something positive instead. Instead of focusing on the things that might go wrong, why not think about all the things that might go right instead?

Positive thoughts can reduce stress levels. When you focus on the negative all the time, your cortisol levels (stress hormone) rise which is definitely not healthy.

Just remember that positive people are less stressed, they focus on the good and they search for solutions instead of focusing on the problem.

2. Plan

Have you noticed that people that never get stressed are planners? Instead of waiting until the last minute to get things done, they plan in advance. For example, meal prep. If you are a busy person, prepping your meals in advance will most certainly reduce your stress levels.

Ways to incorporate planning into your life:

✅Plan your meals

✅Write down the three most important tasks the night before

✅Plan your outfits

✅Plan your rest days and breaks

3. Manage Your Expectations

"When one's expectations are reduced to zero, one really appreciates everything one does have." - Stephen Hawking-

Can you remember a time where you felt the most stressed? Often people get stressed when their expectations are too high. When you expect too much of other people. Or when you expect too much of yourself.

There is nothing wrong with expecting more from yourself, nothing wrong with setting high goals. However, you need to ensure that you set goals that are attainable, instead of unrealistic goals that are unlikely to happen anytime soon.

4. Meditation

Meditation is a major stress reliever. Taking the time out of your day to focus on the good or to set your intentions for the day or for the next day can help you to drastically reduce your stress levels.

5. Spend Time in Nature

You can drastically reduce your stress levels by spending time in nature.

"Being in nature, or even viewing scenes of nature, reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones. It may even reduce mortality, according to scientists such as public health researchers Stamatakis and Mitchell." - Taking Charge of your Wellbeing- University of Minnesota-

6. Read

Reading is a positive way to unwind and refocus your thoughts. People that have reduced stress levels often take the time in their day to read and learn.

In a study carried out by the University of Sussex, individuals who had read for merely six minutes exhibited slower heart rates, less muscle tension, and reduced stress levels.

The next time you are feeling stressed, read something.

7. Set Attainable Goals

This one is a game-changer. There is nothing wrong with setting big goals. Huge money goals or life goals in general, however, when you set attainable goals and you achieve them, it builds confidence and reduces stress. Take things slowly, work on your small, attainable goals and watch the stress just fall away.

8. Say 'No' More Often

Being a people pleaser will leave you feeling stressed and burned out. Learn to say no more often. Have you noticed that people that don't get stressed easily set boundaries? They set clear boundaries and they say no when they need to say no.

9. Exercise

Exercise is a mood booster. People that don't get stressed move their bodies often. Take a long walk, run up and down the stairs, just move your body.

10. Eat More Greens

Dark leafy green vegetables contain magnesium. Magnesium is known as nature's tranquliser. Try to consume more green leafy vegetables each day. If you find it difficult to eat green leafy vegetables, make a smoothie or a juice.

11.Express Gratitude

People that don't get stressed practice gratitude. They focus on the things they do have instead of focusing on all the things they don't have.

12. Remember That Nothing Lasts Forever

No condition is permanent, and people that don't get stressed think about this often. Remember that nothing lasts forever, whatever you are going through right now, it won't last forever.

13. Write

Write your thoughts and feelings down in a journal. People that rarely get stressed either write things down or they talk things through. Bottling your emotions is toxic and it will only lead to more stress and anxiety.

To Conclude

Stress leads to physical and mental health issues. People that don't get stressed spend less time overthinking and more time solving problems. They exercise more, they eat healthily and they spend time in nature. Take some of these habits and incorporate them into your own life to reduce your stress levels and to help you to live a healthier and happier life.
