LASIK procedure usually does not take more than 15 minutes for both eyes. This is more of less the standard. As with all surgeries, after therapy, the patient is also an active participant. Once the surgeon has done his part, you must follow the directions to guarantee that you heal quickly and without accident.

While recovery is typically rapid, many patients get sharp vision the day following surgery, it is vital to remember that there is a healing phase and tremendous attention is needed. To avoid problems, like with any operation, you should always follow your doctor's recommendations. Even though the LASIK procedure has a relatively fast recovery period, certain crucial steps have to be followed to promote optimal recovery. Knowing what kind of follow-up treatment you'll need will help you get greater results.

Your eyes should be cared for. At times eye abnormalities including astigmatism, bifocal vision, nearsightedness, and farsightedness are experienced. LASIK Eye Operation is an operation that is performed to address these problems of the eye. Here in this article, we have listed some of the precautions to be taken after the LASIK surgery.

Precautions:

Although immediately after the surgery you may feel completely normal, being prudent is necessary:

1. YOUR EYE DROPS:

You must use the eye drops as directed after the procedure. To avoid infection, your doctor may give antibiotic eye drops, steroid eye drops to decrease inflammation, and lubricating eye drops or artificial tears to relieve discomfort. Even if your eyes aren't dry, lubricating eye drops should be used. To avoid problems such as infection and flap dislodgement, use the eye drops exactly as directed. Between two medicines, you should wait five minutes. Initially, this could cause some stinging or blurring. Eye drops should be used for two months; however, antibiotics and steroids should be stopped after one week unless otherwise indicated.

2. No Driving:

Transportation must be arranged before the operation because there is no driving on the day of the LASIK procedure. After the first post-surgical check-up appointment, most patients can start again. You can resume driving on the second day if your eyesight is verified to be beyond the usual driving range without glasses.

3. Do not rub your eyes:

Rubbing should be avoided for the first month while the wound heals. Because rubbing your eyes might cause the corneal flap to move and cause problems. This danger is most noticeable on the day of operation, although caution should always be used in the first seven days following surgery.

4. Have more Sleep:

The finest medication, since it is when the body heals the most. Sleeping for two to three hours helps the corneal epithelium recover and alleviates the burning feeling. Sleeping or even resting with your eyes closed will help you feel better and recover faster.

5. Wearing Safety Glasses While Sleeping:

For the first three to four nights after surgery, you must sleep with eye shields or a clear plastic shield. Your surgeon will supply you with safety glasses to wear while sleeping. They will be fastened with medical tape and worn over both eyes (and only one eye in the event of unilateral therapy). This is to avoid touching your eyes unintentionally, which might cause the corneal flap to be disrupted. Alternatively a bandage contact lens may be used.

6. Protect your eyes with dark glasses or sunglasses:

During the first week, always wear sunglasses because your eyes can become more sensitive to light. UV radiation can cause scarring and regressive changes in the eye. As a result, for at least a week following the surgery, you must wear dark shades throughout the day. This promotes corneal healing and shields your eyes from strong light.

7. Bath instead of showering:

Showering should be avoided for at least two weeks after surgery. To avoid infection, avoid getting soap, water, or shampoo in your eyes. When wiping your eyes, use a washcloth and avoid using excessive pressure. For a week following treatment, it isn’t recommended to get any tap water in your eyes. For at least four weeks, stay away from swimming pools, saunas, and hot tubs.

8. Avoid Sports:

After Lasik surgery, you should avoid vigorous or contact sports for a month. If you feel comfortable, you can continue contactless activities like golf or jogging. To prevent sweat from entering your eyes, wear a headband and goggles. After the surgery, avoid sports and exercise for a week, and avoid contact sports for at least a month. For the first 3-6 months, it's a good idea to use eye protection when participating in contact sports like squash.

9. Quit smoking:

Smoking will impede the body's capacity to recuperate following LASIK procedures. This not only delays the healing process following LASIK but also raises the chance of a severe eye infection during recuperation. This is because the corneal incision, as a result of tissue damage induced by smoking, is unable to effectively heal itself following LASIK.

10. Avoid stress:

You should relax more and avoid stress after Lasik eye surgery. To speed up the healing process and go back to your usual routine as soon as possible, stay at home and follow your eye doctor's instructions. Following surgery, it is necessary to schedule follow-up consultations with your eye surgeon. Any post-surgery defects in your eyes will be diagnosed by the doctor, and therapy will be recommended.

End Words:

Lasik is the most painless, quickest, and simplest approach to correct your vision and to get rid of your glasses for good. Despite the high success rate of Lasik surgery, you may develop age-related issues such as cataracts in your eyes. If you follow the above-mentioned approaches for improved eye recovery, you can maintain your regular vision after Lasik surgery.

To avoid complications, it's important to ensure the safety of your eyes before and after LASIK surgery. If you have an eye problem, you should see your surgeon as soon as possible.

Your eyes will be healthy and your vision will be restored following LASIK if you follow your doctor's recommendations. Feel free to contact our knowledgeable eye doctors if you have any questions regarding LASIK.
