When you think of the word nudism, most people think that nudists walk around naked 24/7 or they think that they are a weird bunch of people who hate clothes. Mostly, the thoughts that come to mind when you think about nudists are myths that are often far from the truth.

In this article, we are going to outline ten of the most popular myths associated with nudism.

1. Nudists Are Always Naked

One popular myth that is often associated with nudism is that nudists are always naked. That nudists spend 24 hours a day naked. This is not necessarily the case, but it often springs to mind when non-nudists refer to people who live a nudist lifestyle.

2. Nudists Want to Be Naked in Public All The Time

Another well-known myth is that nudists want to be naked in public all the time. At the grocery store, at the bus stop, at the park, or at the bank.

Most nudists enjoy being naked often but it does not mean that they would spend time in a largely non-nudist society naked in public.

3. Nudists Live in Special Nudist Towns

Most nudists live amongst non-nudists and often they go unnoticed. Nudist colonies do exist but not all nudists live in nudist communities or towns.

4. Nudists Don't Interact with Non-nudists

As stated above, many nudists live amongst non-nudists therefore they will more than likely interact with people who do not live nudist lifestyles.

5. Nudism is about Sex

Nudism isn't about sexual pleasure, it is about feeling comfortable in your own skin, self-love, confidence, and feeling unashamed when it comes to the body that you were born with.

6. Nudism Destroys Sexual Appetite in Relationships

Another popular myth states that nudism destroys sexual appetite in relationships. This myth is connected to the idea that if you see your partner naked all the time, it would create a feeling of boredom which might eventually lead to loss of sexual appetite. Often nudists say that the opposite is true.

7. Nudists Are Mainly Old and Retired

There are old, retired nudists, young, working nudists, and many other types of nudists from varying backgrounds and ethnicities.

8. Nudists Are Weird

Often people think that nudists are weird but the truth is, what is normal? What does it mean to be weird or to be normal? Nudists are neither weird nor normal, they just live their lives according to the principle that you should not be ashamed of the body that you were created with.

9. People Are No Longer Interested in Nudism

One other popular myth is that nudism is dying and that people are no longer interested in the nudist lifestyle. Nudism is actually becoming more and more popular, the internet has provided a platform for nudists to interact with the world to spread the message of nudism to various parts of the world.

10. All Nudists Are Minimalists

Sometimes people connect nudism and minimalism together. There are certainly some minimalists that choose to live a nudist lifestyle however, they are not inextricably linked.

Being part of the nudist community is a beautiful experience. Nudists are often compassionate, confident, positive and open-minded. Nudism isn't about sex, it's about feeling confident in your own skin, loving the skin you are in connecting with your natural self, the real you without the clothing, without the shoes, without the designer handbags and other things that we as human beings often think that we need to be happy or to survive.

Next time someone tells you that they are a nudist, don't judge them, they are simply living their best life.
