When there is chaos going on around you, it can be hard to focus and get things done. It's hard to focus on one thing when people are telling you that there are 10 other things you need to do. Here are some tips to help you stay focused and get things accomplished, even if you feel like your world is falling apart around you.

Prioritize your to-do list

Put your to-do list in order of what is important. Make sure that you take dates into account when you do this. If you have something due tomorrow, don't put it on the end of your list. Of course, the most important part of this step is to make a to-do list. Make a list of everything that you really need to do, no matter how big or small. Even something as small as cleaning your bathroom. It will help you stay organized and focused.

Block everything else out

When you are trying to finish something, you need to block everything else out until that thing is done. If you are sitting down to accomplish something, then don't let yourself get pulled in different directions. Whatever else is going on, it will wait until you are done. If you find yourself getting pulled in another direction, stop yourself. Tell yourself that it can wait, it will be okay.

Find a system that works for you

There are so many different types of schedules and organizers out there. All of them are good, you just need to find a system that works for you. Just because a system works for someone else, doesn't mean that it will work for you. If you feel like a system is not working, don't be afraid to change it. We all work differently, and you just need to find something that works for you. Some people do a time schedule, where they schedule every hour, some do a time block schedule. Do some research and try different systems out.

I find that a time block schedule works best for me. I block my day off into block periods, for about 3 hours at a time. If I don't finish everything in that block, then I move it to the next day. I try to make a theme for each block, an out block to go out, a work block, a bedtime block and so on. I find that it is the best way to keep me on track.

Don't be afraid to try new things and new systems. You will find what works best for you.

Knock out the small things

Knock out a few of the small things on your to-do list. It will give you a sense of accomplishment and kick things into gear. It's the easy way to start to be able to get things done.

Delegate whatever you can

If there is anything on your list that you can ask someone else to do, then do it. Don't be afraid to ask for help. You don't need to do everything by yourself. It doesn't mean that you failed by asking someone to help you.

Take time for yourself as well

Make sure that you make yourself important as well. I know that might sound like it doesn't make sense. But if your cup is empty, you can't fill anyone else. So do something for yourself sometimes. Take a bath, read a book, do something that makes you feel relaxed and brings you joy. Overall, it will make you more productive.

Don't let people get in your ear

It can be very easy to listen to other people, to let other people distract you from your goals. If people try to pull you into other things, tell them that you will add it to your to-do list and get to it when you can. Don't let yourself get distracted until you finish what you start. Once you start a project, don't let anyone distract you with other things.

I know that it's easy to get yourself to get pulled into the chaos, but don't let people take your energy. Try these things and you will find yourself to do more productive.
