And if a few thousand years ago it helped to survive, nowadays the circumstances have changed, but psychologically a person has remained practically the same. Most people are not in mortal danger, but modern people can feel as much stress when faced with everyday problems as ancient people before a deadly encounter with a wild animal.

Robert Cialdini clearly demonstrates in the book "The Psychology of Influence" that pointing out negative consequences only makes the situation worse (causes only fear), if you do not show a person a way out of it. Therefore, some effective methods of prevention and overcoming stress are collected below.

There are three possible options for dealing with stress. The first: to notice irritability in time and prevent stress. The second: if the first signs of stress were not noticed, then you should perform exercises to combat it. The third: if the exercises were not performed, a nervous breakdown occurs. As you understand, it is best to stop at the first option. But if it didn't work out, then the following tips will help minimize the damage in the second and even the third option.

1. Meditation and rest

It is impossible to feel stress and calm at the same time. Therefore, if you rest and relax, you cannot physically feel stress. Rest is recommended every 1.5-2 hours. If possible, lie down with your eyes closed.

Practicing meditation helps to turn off chaotic thoughts and focus on neutral things. During this time, the wave of stress and anger recedes, and you can start again with a clean slate.

2. Art and hobby

Hobby in psychology is called occupational therapy. Any activity that is interesting for you not only lifts your mood, but also removes unnecessary thoughts and relaxes you.

Art has something close to a child's sincere joy of creating something new. You can draw, write, sculpt, play online games such as Nomad Games, shoot videos, take photos, do crafts and write music.

3. Autoregulation of breathing

The easiest way to relieve stress, which few people use. During any stress, a person tends to forget how he breathes and what he feels - he focuses exclusively on his irritation.

Take a deep breath through your nose and exhale through your mouth. These actions can be the same in time, or your exhalation can be half as long as your inhalation. During the exercise, do not think about anything, just watch your breathing.

4. Bringing order

This means not only cleaning (although that is welcome), but also putting your life in order. Stress is a certain response to complex life problems. And, surprisingly, these can be quite easily and quickly resolved situations. You may need just one day off to get rid of many of the problems that cause stress. The next day you will feel great relief and peace. Write down past problems on a piece of paper, highlight those that will take some time to resolve, and resolve them as well. Divide the global difficulties into stages and perform them in order.

5. Physical activity

Physical activity is one of the ways to get rid of negative thoughts. Running, dancing, yoga, football - all this will help to forget about past mistakes and an uncertain future, or in general to realize that many problems are far-fetched. There is a recommendation to bring everything to the absurd: if you are in a room alone, start behaving like comic book characters or squish some animal. In this state, you simply will not be able to feel stress, because the situation itself is comical, which means that it leaves no chance for irritability.
