An angel investor, more precisely known within the international financial world as a business angel or angel financier, is an affluent individual who provides capital for innovative business start-ups. To qualify under the United States Securities Exchange Commission's (SEC) definition of an accredited investor, a financial angel must have a net worth of at least $1 million and earn at least $200,000 to $300,000 a year if investing jointly with a spouse.
