A Common Failure In Leadership

Do you want to be part of a $37 Billion mistake?

Are you sure?

As of 2023, there are 55 million instances that lead to $37 Billion in Losses happen EVERY week, in the US alone.

55 MILLION per week!

What if I told you that these events Decimate Productivity?

What if they also lead to Losses in Creativity and Innovation?

What if the more of these instances that occur, the higher your rates of Quiet Quitting and Active Disengagement will be?

Then, what if I added that the more of these that occur, the more they prove that Leaders are Incompetent?

Would you want to be a part of that scale of a mistake?

Are you sure you aren't already part of the problem?

Do you want to know what this is?

Unproductive Meetings.

It's true.

I know you might say something like, "But don't we need meetings?"

Here's the Reality you need to understand as a Leader.

Most Meetings are a useless waste of time for you and everyone that is there.

How much time is wasted?

An average of 7.5 hours per employee per WEEK.

That is nearly an ENTIRE DAY of Productivity lost!

If ANYONE in your Organization is losing 7.5 hours per week on Average in Meetings, you have EXTREME Problems occurring.

What is more of an Ideal amount of Time spent in Meetings?

90 minutes or less per week in meetings (As opposed to 90 minutes per DAY as is the current average).

If you are spending more than that, this is what you need to understand...

Whatever you are trying to Figure out in that meeting, very clearly isn't being defined well.

If you have your Processes correct, your Data is set up properly, and you are Measuring the right things, you should RARELY require meetings.

Our high-tech world should be able to provide you with nearly all the information you need at your fingertips, requiring only light follow-ups with the correct people.

This isn't how it is done usually though.

Most meetings call in far too many people, most of whom completely zone out because they should never have been there, and the meetings go on far too long going over meaningless Data that don't lead to the Results that the Organization needs.

That's the "norm".

That's how Employees lose 1.5 hours per day and nearly an ENTIRE DAY per week from their Productivity.

For instance, a common question you'll hear during a meeting is, "Hey Joe/Sally, how's Progress going on your Project?"

...Seriously?

Are you telling me that you don't have ANY Insight outside of that meeting on how someone's Project is going?

With how many systems we have available to us in today's world, you should have access to a Project Timeline that shows exactly where individuals are on Projects AND any Challenges they are facing WITHOUT needing to call a meeting!

If you don't, it's like you're flying an Airplane without an electronic map or the ability to see out your cockpit window.

How do you know if you're going to run into a mountain, or over an ocean?

The Reality is that you don't.

You can't Effectively make decisions if you can't see where you are going and how far you are on things.

Then, you compound the Problem by calling gigantic Meetings to "attempt" to get answers, only to end up in the same place as you started.

Blind to the next day.

This leads to an endless cycle of calling a useless Meeting to get Data you should already have at your fingertips, then trying to Fly Blind requiring another useless Meeting.

The more you do this, the less Productive your Employees are going to be.

These types of Meetings also Produce Dis-Stress on a variety of levels which blocks Flow States, reducing Productivity further.

Without those Flow States, you lose Creativity and Innovation in your Organization.

No Business ever truly Stagnates, which means that the lost Creativity and Innovation actually create Degradation in the Organization.

This Creates FURTHER Dis-Stress as the Pressure to "Get Results" increases.

This Pressure mixed with the Dis-Stress leads to Stupid Decisions.

Those Decisions come to Haunt us later down the line as it creates MORE Problems.

This leads to MORE Meetings that Produce the same Broken Results.

If you want to become an Effective Leader, you need to figure out how to Eliminate most meetings - make it so that you no longer need them.

This doesn't mean you should hide in your Office, or shouldn't speak with your Teams and Understand the Humans that make them up.

Data does not replace People.

But you shouldn't have to call Meetings to "get" Data that should already be at your fingertips.

The only time a Meeting is Beneficial is when it is called to solve a Specific Problem or Develop a Plan for a Better Future, and should END with a Solution or Plan.

These types of Meetings are Creative or Innovative Focused, those involved should attain Flow States, and so the Meetings can become valuable.

The Reality however is that the vast majority of Meetings never actually get to that point.

Nothing gets done.

How can you Reduce Meetings?

Can you possibly Eliminate them?
