Getting to know the Wattpad authors

Yvesdot has done some amazing things, written for a number of places, and even has some work up on Amazon. Thank you for stopping by and taking part in my project.

Chloe Gilholy: What made you become a writer?

Yvesdot: I had this very specific fanwork crossover idea that I knew nobody else would ever write. If I wanted to see it done, I had to do it myself—and I did! And people absolutely loved it. I realized I liked writing and interacting with my readers, and from there I've written ever since.

What brought you to Wattpad?

I was actually here long before I started writing; I mass-downloaded free reading apps on my brand-new iPad 1 (yes, I know) and just happened to like Wattpad. Used it to host English class assignments before I got into the fan community.

What is the latest project you're working on?

Two, actually! I'm currently writing an inter-dimensional WLW (women loving women) romance, but am about to transition into planning for my NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) project—a vampire mystery/dating visual novel.

Have you ever been published outside of Wattpad?

Yes! One book and multiple short stories, all over the place in terms of publications. Reedsy; a local newspaper contest; and Caustic Frolic.

What's your greatest achievement as a writer?

Definitely my published book. It took a lot of hard work and I'm very proud of having gotten there; part of the reason I put it out into the world was that I wanted to have a 'first book.' I needed to prove to myself that I could do it.

What are your writing goals?

Get my next couple of things professionally published! Working on editing a novel draft as we speak.

What's your favorite thing about writing for Wattpad?

The in-line comments. I love hearing what people think not just about the entire work, but about specific lines that made them laugh or cry. In-line comments also entice readers to comment more, which is massively helpful to writers.

What’s your pet peeves about writing for Wattpad?

Undiscovered works are actively throttled by the system. This is not the case on sites like AO3 (Archive of Our Own), which simply avoid listing primarily by popularity. Then again, I have my complaints about AO3...

Aside from Wattpad, are there any other sites you’ve written for?

AO3 and Medium. My account on both is @yvesdot!

Where do you see your writing journey in five years?

At least one novel in the works for traditional publishing, and at least two full first novel drafts. Writing 15 to 30 minutes daily—which I actually already do.

How would you feel about someone making fanwork based on your stories?

I would love it! I have loved it, when people have sent it to me: https://yvesdot.tumblr.com/tagged/fanart/

Which Wattpad book that you’ve written do you feel best displays your writing talents?

Exhaustively. I just entered it into the 2019 Wattys! Generally, whatever I've last written is the best piece—it incorporates everything I've learned, after all.
