After all these years, Idiocracy got a sequel. Idiocracy 2. There's no real surprise other than that a box office flop got a sequel.

Idiocracy and Idiocracy 2

For those who haven’t seen it, or don’t remember it well, Idiocracy is a dark comedy set in a dystopian sci-fi world, a satirical movie with themes of adventure, comedy, and thrills. Mike Judge wrote and directed it, and Luke Wilson, Maya Rudolph, and Dax Shepard star.

The plot was a relatively simple idea. Corporal Bauers (Luke Wilson) is chosen for a top-secret hibernation program. When he’s forgotten, he eventually wakes up and is in a future so incredibly moronic that he’s easily the most intelligent person alive.

As Corporal Bauers navigates this dystopian world he’s reawakened to, he quickly finds himself getting into one mess after another, and the hijinks ensue. Idiocracy was distributed by 20th Century Fox and fell flat quickly, making less than 500,000.00 duirng it’s theatrical run. However, some movies just won’t die.

After receiving positive reviews and critics applauding, Idiocracy goes down in history as one of those coming-of-age tales. And the movie has some great plot points that keep it from falling flat. It’s a movie that holds up well.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Idiocracy would get a sequel. They’ll make a sequel out of just about anything. Jason Statham punched a shark in Megalodon and went on to make Meg 2: The Trench. The books were arguably 1,000 times better than the movies, and the Author and creator of the Meg series would write several more.

Much like the original, the sequel to Idiocracy includes such weird incursions as a celebrity President, former prison inmates, and bizarre characters visiting, and a thousand times, people slapping their own heads as they try to wrap their minds around the weird and bizarre universe they’re in.

Idiocracy 2 is tentatively being called Idiocracy 2: The Weirdening, and has appearances by a cast of thousands. In the very first scene, Joe Bauers finds himself back in the 21st century. He’s promoted to General by the television host, a shady-dealing businessman who has become president. That leads to his new duties, serving at the behest of one of the country's most prominent citizens, some guy with a swastika on his chest.

Two brothers, who he couldn’t give a shit about, are there to talk to him and his fellow leaders at the Pentagon while there’s a staged cage match in the courtyard outside. They’re the president's personal cheerleaders.

It’s all so incredible that Joe begins to use his newfound power and connections, trying to figure out what happened to the world. How did the world get so confused? But as he starts to unravel what happened between 2005 and 2026, when he returns, he realizes that the time machine that brought him back must have malfunctioned.

His demotion and discharge from the military come after being summoned to the White House Situation Room. During a meeting of the top brass and the president, the room is cleared out by the obnoxious odor of a flatulent president, half asleep at the wheel of command. Even three rats that lived in the walls couldn’t take the stench and make a run for it.

Joe, who doesn’t have the filter on his mouth that some of the ass kissers in the room have, asks the president if he’s okay. The president says he’s fine. But Joe doubts that’s the case. The Commander-In-Chief is a well-known billionaire who likes fast food, porn stars, and has lost touch with reality.

The sequel to Idiocracy was written by the American voters, who never stood up and demanded better candidates, and allowed themselves to remain so split on the basics that neither side of the American political scene could develop an attractive platform. Realizing this, Joe goes back in time one more time to the 1990s, when things still made sense.
