You’re Always Waiting for a Different Version of Reality

Why nothing feels like the “right moment” to actually live

By mikePublished 4 months ago • 2 min read

There’s a quiet habit that most people carry without realizing it.

It’s not obvious. It doesn’t look like laziness or fear. In fact, it often feels logical, even responsible.

It’s the habit of waiting for a better version of reality before you fully engage with your life.

You tell yourself things will feel different when circumstances change. When you have more time, more energy, more clarity. When things are more stable, more certain, more aligned.

So you hold back, just a little.

Not completely. You still move, still do what you need to do. But there’s always a part of you that feels like this isn’t the real moment yet.

Like this is temporary.

Like the real version of your life is coming later.

And because of that, you never fully step into what’s happening right now.

You’re present, but not completely.

You’re involved, but not deeply.

You’re always slightly holding back, waiting for things to feel more “right.”

That’s the pattern.

And the strange thing is, that “right moment” never arrives in the way you expect it to.

Because reality doesn’t suddenly become perfect.

It doesn’t clear itself up completely.

There’s always something slightly off.

Something missing.

Something uncertain.

So the waiting continues.

You move the starting point forward.

You tell yourself “soon.”

Then “a bit later.”

Then “when things make more sense.”

But life doesn’t pause while you wait.

Time keeps moving.

Moments keep passing.

Opportunities come and go—not always dramatically, but quietly.

And because you’re always expecting a better version of reality, you don’t fully engage with the one you have.

You treat your current life like a setup for something else.

A preparation phase.

A transition.

Something you’ll take seriously later.

But “later” keeps shifting.

That’s what makes this pattern dangerous.

It doesn’t feel like you’re avoiding life.

It feels like you’re being patient.

Like you’re waiting for the right conditions.

But in reality, you’re creating distance between yourself and your own experience.

Because life doesn’t happen in ideal conditions.

It happens in the middle of uncertainty.

In incomplete situations.

In moments that don’t feel perfectly aligned.

If you wait for everything to feel right, you’ll always find a reason to wait longer.

There will always be something not ready.

Something unclear.

Something you think needs to change first.

And because of that, you stay in a constant state of “almost.”

Almost starting.

Almost committing.

Almost living fully.

The shift happens when you stop expecting reality to change before you do.

When you stop treating your current moment as temporary.

When you stop postponing your engagement with your own life.

Because the truth is, this is it.

Not a rehearsal.

Not a setup.

Not a waiting room.

This is the version of reality you have.

And it won’t suddenly transform into something perfect.

But it doesn’t need to.

Because the depth of your life doesn’t come from perfect conditions.

It comes from how fully you step into imperfect ones.

From how present you allow yourself to be, even when things aren’t ideal.

From how much you engage, instead of holding back.

Once you stop waiting for a different version of reality, something shifts.

You stop delaying your life.

You stop treating moments like placeholders.

You start experiencing things as they are—not as they could be.

And strangely, that’s when things begin to feel more real.

Not because everything improved…

But because you finally stopped waiting for it to.
