Being a writer can be a lonely experience.

You put all your thoughts and feelings out there for everyone to see, and sometimes it feels like you're the only one who understands them. It's easy to feel lost and alone when struggling to find your voice or going through a rough patch in your writing career. But don't worry, you're not alone. There are plenty of other writers out there who understand what you're going through.

Here are four things to remember when you feel lost and alone as a new (or experienced) writer.

You are not limited, nor are you stuck

It is never too late to turn your career and life around.

Embrace where you are and become empowered by it because that's all you can control. No matter your past, what matters most is the present and future - so make them count. Maybe you lost a client, or perhaps you're totally blocked on what to write; just know that this is temporary.

Remember that not all storms come to disrupt your life…some come to clear your path.

All the things that seemed not to matter added up to something

I bet there are gobs of memories you've collected and lived through that made no sense.

That lousy job you worked late nights while in high school.

Those nights you hung out with "work" friends, knowing you'd never see them again.

All that time you spent writing a terrific blog that only your mom read.

Sharing your most profound future plans that never came to fruition.

All your hardships have led to your successes. They've made you who you are today.

And not only that, they've inadvertently given you the fodder and fuel for some kick-butt memoirs and stories to share.

Remember that success is not a straight line - there will be bumps along the way, but don't let them stop you from reaching your goals

Everyone suffers in life at some point.

You're not the only one.

Everyone has felt lost at times too.

The key is to use your experiences to better yourself. By applying the lessons you've learned to your future choices and actions, you will only continue moving forward instead of backward. You become stronger and wiser with every experience.

It's not easy, but let me tell ya, it's worth it in the end.

It's okay to be unsure of yourself and your work - everyone feels this way at some point

Over time, you experience many things that change your perspective and make you grow as a person.

People will tell you that you've changed as time passes, and it's to be expected. Everyone changes over time - it's just a part of life. You can reply with something along the lines of, "Of course I've changed. That's what life is all about; growing and learning." remind them that even though you may have changed in some ways, you're still the same person at heart.

Stop letting your past define who you are- it's time to break free.

It's difficult, but you can LET GO! You CAN accept the feeling of not knowing where you'll end up and learn to love and appreciate this freedom. It is only when we are struggling, with no destination in sight, that we hit our potential and allow ourselves to succeed fully. And as you travel through life, still unsure of your next step or decision, remember that it's okay - What matters most is enjoying the journey along the way.

The most crucial part is opening up your wings. You might not know where you'll end up, but as long as your wings are outstretched, the winds will take you there.

Look, I know it's usually easier said than done.

Making this kind of mindset shift - thinking better - takes guidance and practice.

Ultimately, the head is your battleground. The space between your ears is where the fiercest and most brutal conflict resides.

It's where the things you were afraid of never actually happened.

It's where your expectations always get the best of you.

It's where you fall victim to your own negative thinking repeatedly.

If you entertain these toxic thoughts, they will control your emotions and sap your productivity. You will think yourself into a never-ending cycle of disappointment and pain. You'll play that broken record over…and over…and over again.

But are you ready for the silver lining?

YOU CAN change the way you think.

And if you can change how you think, you can master a new way to be.
