Touch

The purest form of expression

There is something so extremely satisfying about the human touch. The sensitivity of the fingers gliding softly over skin and hair. Barely touching at times, yet enough to signal a response from the brain. The brain tells the body “this is so very nice.” The body responds with a sigh. It can be comforting and loving. It can be sensual without turning sexual. It can be playful and fun. It is one of the purest forms of expression.

It truly is a language all its own. A thousand words can be said with a single touch and no words need to be spoken. The gentle brushing back of the hair out of one's face says “you are so beautiful, let me see your face.” The wiping away of a tear (or many tears) speaks of compassion and caring. It says “Don’t cry we will get through this.” The softness of the fingers gliding through the hair tells of the gentle side of a person. The single finger that traces the lines of your face and then boops your nose, shows the fun playful side.

We live in a world of touch. We touch everything, literally, but the silent touch between two people is the most trusting of touches. Not knowing what they are thinking yet being able to read the touch. The eyes are the road map on the journey. There, you can see how the touch affects. Touching beyond the physical skin and reaching the soul. Even the simplicity of tracing fingers and then locking them together as one, has intense meaning.

For me, silent touch is an exquisite form of communication. It allows the two a way to express feelings and emotions without worrying if your words will come out wrong. What you say can sometimes come out differently than how you mean or be misunderstood, but the touch… rarely is misquoted or taken out of context.

To give someone permission to touch and be touched should be an honor bestowed upon each. With an unspoken understanding that there will be scars and flaws, stretch marks and rough patches, lumps and bumps and maybe some squishy parts. All that are me (or you) and will be respected as such. An acceptance that all those things discovered on the journey are who we are. Then the discovery begins.

When we touch we learn many things. About others and ourselves. We learn what makes people feel loved and what makes them uncomfortable. We learn how our touch can heal and help. How we can make someone else's sadness leave with the simple touch of our hand. We learn how a slight touch can excite or frighten. Then we learn about ourselves. We learn how to express through our touch. How to show love and emotion. We learn how we like to be touched and how we do not. We learn how to give and receive pleasure with our touch. We learn how to be unashamed and unapologetic. We learn to put our trust in another person and learn that it’s alright to do so.

There is nothing more emotionally satisfying than the slow, soft feel of the human touch. The one that ignites the senses and takes your breath away. The one touch that you know is only shared by two. The touch you hope never stops and makes you internally scream for more. The absolute, mind blowing, life altering touch you thought never existed. The one that speaks volumes when no words are being said. The touch that says exactly what I need to hear. The one that whispers “I am here, I’ve got you and I love you.” The touch that says it best when you say nothing at all.

All my love G.
