The night when death came knocking at Washington's grand hall Latest | 26 April 2026

| Political Analysis The candles were lit.

The magnificent hall of the Washington Hilton Hotel was sparkling. More than two and a half thousand guests — journalists, politicians, ministers, officials — dressed in black tie, were seated at their tables. The first course had arrived on the tables. Laughter filled the air, there were bursts of laughter, America's most famous media dinner was at its peak. On the stage was the President of the United States, Donald Trump — for the first time, as President, at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. And then — precisely at 8:35 PM — shots were fired. Five bullets. From outside the lobby. The smell of gunpowder reached inside. Chaos erupted in the hall. Hundreds of guests screamed and dove under tables. Someone shouted — "Get down!" Someone said — "Don't move!" Some people started singing "God Bless America." Some just kept trembling. Secret Service agents burst onto the stage and surrounded Trump to take him out. Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pat Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, RFK Jr. — all were taken out together. It was the night of 25 April 2026.This was the third attempted assassination on Trump.

The man who invited death

is named Cole Thomas Allen. He is 31 years old and a resident of Torrance, California. He was a guest at the hotel that night — that is, he had booked a regular room. Around a quarter to nine at night — when dinner was in full swing — he moved toward the magnetometer screening area. He had with him: a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives. He ignored the security checkpoint and started running. Secret Service agents stopped him. Shots were fired. One officer was hit — but the bulletproof vest saved his life. The attacker was arrested on the spot. Secret Service Deputy Director Matthew Quin later said: 'Tonight a coward tried to create a national tragedy. He underestimated the capabilities of the Secret Service — and was stopped at first contact.' The FBI raided his home in California. The investigation is ongoing. The motive is not yet clear — but it has been confirmed that he had donated $25 to Kamala Harris's campaign in the 2024 elections.

CNN's Wolf Blitzer and that scary moment

CNN senior anchor Wolf Blitzer was at the dinner that night.

He later said he saw the attacker shoot on the floor with his own eyes — and the next moment a police officer pushed him away and locked him in the washroom.

"There were 15 other men locked in. No one was letting them out. "

Al Jazeera producer Chris Sheridan said:

"We smelled the gunpowder. I immediately fell to the ground. The bullets came right behind me — from across the door. "

CNN's Jake Tapper was sitting inside — he didn't hear the sound but saw Secret Service agents running toward the stage.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino — who was also with Trump at the time of the Butler, Pennsylvania attack in 2024 — wrote on X:

"I never thought I'd have to lie on the ground again after the butler. A lot of painful memories came back. Thankfully, everyone is safe. "

Presidential Press Conference at Taxidoo

Approximately two hours after the incident — at night — Trump entered the White House briefing room.

He was still wearing Taxidoo.

With him were — Vice President Pence, FBI Director Kash Patel, Homeland Security Secretary Mark Van Mille, and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanch.

Trump said that he initially thought it was some tray noise — the sound was so far away. But Melania immediately understood that these were bullets.

When asked — was this an attack on you?

Trump paused for a moment and said: 'I think so.'

And then he said:

'It happens with great presidents. It doesn't happen with those who do nothing.'

About the wounded officer, he said: 'I spoke to him myself. He is feeling very proud. The bulletproof jacket worked.'

He wrote on social media: 'Quite an interesting evening in Washington. The Secret Service did a tremendous job. I am completely fine — and this dinner will happen again!'

A strange twist of history — the same hotel, 45 years later

Washington Hilton Hotel.

This name has already been recorded in American history.

In 1981 — outside this very hotel — John Hinckley Jr. shot at President Ronald Reagan. Reagan survived — but barely.

45 years later, in the same building, another American president had to be saved from bullets.

History repeats itself — and that night, it did again.

Two years, three attacks — a record no one wants

It is something to think about:

July 2024 — Butler, Pennsylvania: open-field rally, AR-15 rifle, eight bullets, one grazing the ear, a civilian killed, the attacker shot.

September 2024 — West Palm Beach, Florida: attacker sitting in golf course bushes with a rifle, Secret Service spotted, fled, arrested — received a life sentence.

April 2026 — Washington Hilton: armed attack during dinner, officer injured, Trump and the entire cabinet safely evacuated.

Three times in two years.

Experts say — no modern American president has had to face so many threats.

Trump himself said: "With the amount of security needed these days, perhaps no one has ever seen it before. But we will not be afraid."We will not let society fall into anyone's hands.

World's Reaction

Within hours of the incident, voices rose from all over the world. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on X: "There is no place for violence in democracy." Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Acting President of Venezuela Delcy Rodriguez — all condemned it, all expressed relief that Trump is safe. Homeland Security Secretary Mark Van Milin said: "President Trump showed incredible composure and leadership tonight. Thanks to the Secret Service and law enforcement agencies who acted swiftly and bravely."

The Question That Still Demands an Answer

This morning, April 26, 2026 — a question is echoing around the world: Why? What was Cole Allen's purpose? Did he really want to reach Trump? Is there a bigger conspiracy, or the act of a lone madman? The FBI is investigating. A raid has been carried out at home. Answers will come — but not yet. For now, it is only known that America's supposedly safest dinner, a hall filled with the most powerful people, and the claim of the strongest security — all shook in one night.

Last thing — this is not just Trump's issue.

Trump is alive. Safe.

But the image the world has seen — it is not just Trump's, it is America's image.

A country where the president has survived three assassination attempts. Where journalists were shot at during dinner at night. Where people in black ties hid under tables, and smelled the gunpowder.

This is the face of American politics that has now come before the world.

Hatred, violence, and fear — this is not the problem of one president.

It is the problem of this country.
