Studies of positive psychology have shown that a positive attitude, along with an optimistic conception and positive thinking, has the ability to improve our health and give us greater happiness.

It seems that when you have a positive attitude towards life, you are more likely to live longer and better, but also to enjoy greater success.

What is the attitude?

Attitude is a mental attitude toward a way of thinking or feeling or a personal orientation toward your inner faith. A positive attitude is, therefore, the general tendency to be optimistic and confident in the realization of your hopes.

The power of positive thinking

A positive attitude and optimistic thinking that appear early in life can predict good health and the ability to live happily. A Harvard University study found a close correlation between optimistic student thinking and health they rejoiced later, after the age of 40.

In his book, "An Alphabet in Positive Psychology," Christopher Petersen points out that "optimism has proven benefits, and pessimism weighs heavily on us." efficient problem solving, a successful career in college, athletics, the military and political success, popularity, health, and even longer life and release from any trauma. ”

Even if you have been pessimistic and have had negative thinking over a long period of time, it is never too late to change your mindset and enjoy the benefits of a positive attitude.

The characteristics of a positive attitude and optimism

Optimists believe that they are meant to encounter only good things in life, and because of this, good things generally come their way. If something bad happens to them, optimists are inclined to believe that this is just an isolated accident, an anomaly, or something that got out of control; optimists are convinced that this will not happen again and that things will get better in the future.

Positive thinking requires practice

If you are a person whose first thoughts about the meaning of a thing or event have a negative connotation, you should be encouraged that the first step to a positive attitude and positive thinking is to allow yourself another thought about the thing or event. respectively. Thoughts are under our control. Your pessimistic way of thinking is a habit, and habits can be changed.

When you catch a pessimistic thought about an event in your life, you must first evaluate the reality. What was the event? What are the facts (and not your inner fears)?

At a later stage, you need to think about an alternative explanation of the event and future events. When your old car suddenly starts making a suspicious noise, you can immerse yourself in a pessimistic attitude, thinking about how expensive it will be the repair, or you can resort to the optimistic attitude, telling yourself that maybe a small repair will solve the problem.

Try to follow this pattern of thinking, repeating daily a statement such as: When I have a negative thought, I must evaluate the facts and think of positive alternatives that also conform to the facts.

If you practice the positive thinking system described above, soon this type of attitude will start to appear in you naturally. At some point, you may be amazed at the discovery that you are simply beginning to feel better by embedding this positive attitude.

It will be necessary, over time, to learn to use positive affirmations, which can strengthen your positive attitude.

The mechanism of personal development could be expressed by the following formula:

Positive thinking + positive affirmation = positive attitude

Positive affirmations and practicing an attitude

A statement is a statement, reinforcement, or affirmation of a strong belief. Regular use of positive statements reinforces positive thinking and can defeat the effects of a previous negative attitude. Daily use of positive statements can be an effective way of personal training of the statement is well understood and used.

What is a good positive statement?

The structure of such a statement is of vital importance. If the words used are incorrect, the statement may have an adverse effect.

The first and most important thing to know about an effective statement is that it must be constructed in the first person. Any strong positive statement begins with the first name "I".

A second requirement is one that bothers many people: the statement must be in the present tense. Otherwise, the potential of the statement is it's much diminished.

With a few exceptions, the first two words of the statement should be "I am." The words "I am" incorporate the first person and the present tense, giving the statement a strong beginning.

At this point, many people make a big mistake. Since they are not yet a positive person, they try to avoid the present tense, preferring a weaker statement, such as, "I will try to be a much more positive person."

If you read these two examples aloud, you will immediately feel the difference in energy and strength.

Emotional load and strong daily affirmation

Feelings of emotion can make it easier for a person to make a statement. The "I'll try" statement is just one of hope and dream.

To enhance a positive statement you can add an emotional or emotional charge, as in the following example: "I am proud and happy now because I am a positive person."

Other aspects are involved in creating and using a positive statement, such as visualization, the way in which the habit of thinking can counterbalance an effective positive statement, and awareness of accidental statements.
