The Deliveries
Lynn never had a secret admirer before.đˇđšđ
One day when Lynn arrived home from work there was a box at her door. She couldnât imagine what it could be since she hadnât ordered anything for months. She thought maybe the package was delivered to the wrong address but the box had her name and address on it. She picked up the box and took it into her apartment. She always had so much to do when she got home from work, mainly take care of her cat, Rosie. Rosie was always waiting patiently when she walked in the door. Lynn thought I donât know whatâs in this box but I know Rosie will enjoy playing in it! So after she got settled she curiously looked at that box sitting on the kitchen table and decided to open it. Inside were three bottles of wine. She couldnât figure out who would send her wine. Yes, she liked wine, but it wasnât her birthday or any other special occasion. It was even her favorite wine, Merlot. Then Lynn noticed a card in the box, and in beautiful hand writing it said âFrom your secret admirer.â She could barely get the wine bottles out before Rosie was playing in the box. Lynn said âGee, Rosie, we both got presents today, I got my favorite wine and you got a new box!â Lynn just couldnât imagine who could have sent it. She was divorced for about a year and had not been on a date in over five years.
About a week went by and Lynn found herself constantly wondering who could have sent the wine. She was always looking around thinking maybe she would recognize somebody or something that would give her a hint. She even asked a few of her friends if they had any ideas who it could be but nobody had any idea. Then on Saturday Lynnâs doorbell rang and it was another delivery. This time it was a bouquet of roses from the local florist. Well, roses were her favorite flower, which is how her cat got the name Rosie. Again, the card with the roses simply read âYour secret admirer.â Now Lynn was really curious. Whoever this secret admirer was somehow knew her favorite wine and her favorite flower too. It certainly couldnât be her ex-husband. The divorce was amicable but they hadnât spoken in over six months plus they werenât compatible, which is why they divorced. Lynn always talked to her cat and so she looked over and said âHey Rosie, we got our favorite flowers today but I know you were hoping for a box.â Lynn went about her day but couldnât help but wonder all day long who sent her the beautiful roses.
Summer was coming to an end and Lynnâs favorite season was coming up, not necessarily fall, but football season. She always loved football season and being from Pittsburgh her favorite team was and always will be the Steelers. When she was young she would always watch the Steelers games on television with her father and she had such wonderful memories of those days. Every once in a while they even attended a game. She wished she could go to a game again and see her beloved Steelers in person but now that she was divorced and on her own, money was tight. Not to mention, she now lived in Cleveland but she would be happy to watch the Steelers play in Cleveland! She was dreaming, of course, and she would just have to be satisfied watching the games on television.
Lynn watched the football game on Sunday and she was excited to hear that the Steelers would be playing in Cleveland the following week. She said to Rosie âThis is exciting even if we will be watching it on television!â On Wednesday Lynn was going through her mail like she always did and she noticed a card. Her name and address were not handwritten so Lynn did not have a clue who it could be from. She did receive cards from her family but they were always handwritten so she could tell who they were from. She opened the card and inside was one ticket to Sundayâs football game and handwritten inside was a message that said âThis is your secret admirer and if you will join me for dinner and the football game on Sunday then I will reveal myself. If you accept, I will meet you at the restaurant across from the stadium at 4:00 p.m. I will be the man waiting inside the door with a dozen of roses.â Lynn felt like she was going to faint! She thought about what she should do and on Saturday she finally made a decision. Lynn decided to go because she really wanted to know who her secret admirer was and she also wanted to go to the game. Dinner and the game were both in public places so she wasnât concerned for her safety.
Sunday finally arrived and Lynn was so excited to meet her secret admirer. She thought âWho could it possibly be that knows I like Merlot, roses and the Steelers?â She tried not to think about it too much or she feared she would not walk into the restaurant so she just walked right in and there he was...it was John, her high school sweetheart from Pittsburgh! Lynn was shocked but relieved it was somebody she knew. John apologized for being so secretive but he explained that he was afraid she wouldnât be interested in him anymore. Lynn was happy to see John and get reacquainted with him. After all, high school was many years ago and a lot of things had changed since they last dated. They had a nice dinner and, of course, some Merlot. Lynn thanked John for the gifts and he could see how excited she was to go to the Steelers game after dinner. This was Lynnâs dream date, and her first date with John since they went their separate ways after high school. John gave Lynn her three favorite things that Sunday...roses, MERLOT and the Steelers game! To top it all off, there were fireworks after the football game and the Steelers won!!! John and Lynn made arrangements to see each other again and John said "If the Steelers make it to the Super Bowl then I will see to it that we are there." Lynn said "WOW...this really was a dream date!"
