"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time"-book reviews

“The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time” is a mystery novel written by the British writer Mark Haddon. This book tells the story of a strange child in the eyes of others. He is lonely, sensitive, proud and fragile. In the process of exploring the truth, he shows extraordinary intelligence and courage. When we are thinking of Neruodiversity, we think of the variation of the way that we think and see things with our brain. Christopher is a very serious child, as he said himself: once he has a real interest in something, he will turn a blind eye to everything around him, even his father's call for dinner. He is so serious and serious about the things around him. He doesn't like strangers. He doesn't like yellow and brown. He uses the number of red cars and yellow cars to distinguish whether it's a lucky day. He observes things carefully and knows how dad goes upstairs and how the engine sounds when the car starts. He likes to find rules, and he likes to do things according to the rules and go to a stranger. The place where he was born is to find rules, like mathematics and astronomy. Christopher views and sees things kind of different than normal people and I think that is neruodiversity of a human being. The book perfectly describes neruodiversity on Christopher because his thoughts and point of views are very unique and his spiritual world is diverse and various.

Christopher is an introverted kid who likes quiet and often thinks things alone for a long time. In the book he says: “I always like small spaces, as long as there are no other people there. Sometimes when I want to be alone, I will hide in the closet in the bathroom, shrink by the boiler, pull the door behind my back hand, and sit in it thinking for hours. This will make me feel very calm.” Every single person has a different way of thinking and personality, therefore we create a name for it-Neruodiversity. Christopher is quite wired from other people’s eyes, but that doesn't mean he is not normal because that is his personality and way of thinking and seeing things. Sometimes, thinking alone for a minute is very helpful for us and that is Christopher’s unique weapon of Neruodiversity. It helps him more easily to find the truth and give courage to himself.

Christopher doesn’t actually view things as we do as usual. He often thinks things from a unique perspective. For example, he said: “I like dogs. The dog's mind is easy to understand. They have four emotions: happy, sad, angry and focused”. This sounds kind of weird to us because usually we won’t even think of a dog's emotions and the reason he likes it is because it’s easy to understand. We can imagine how unique his way of thinking things is from this quote. Conversely, “I find that people are very difficult creatures to understand.” Compare this too quotes, his unique way of thinking tells him that dogs only have four emotions, but people have more, because people have very complex and different emotions and they have-neruodiversity.

In my opinion, it is still relevant and powerful because the characterization is kind of related to the term-neruodiversity. Christopher’s spiritual world is different from most people so the term-neruodiversity perfectly interpretates Christopher’s way of thinking and his personality. Some people may seem different than others because their brains have different ways of viewing a thing. For example, the main character of “The Good Doctor” is kind of similar to Christopher. For instance, a little boy, unfortunately, was hit by a collapsed billboard. Glass debris stabbed his carotid artery and abdomen. He was in danger. After judging the boy's injury, Sean can boldly use the existing materials in the airport, such as wine bottles, knives and tape confiscated during security inspection, to make a self-made one-way valve to help the child recover his breath and save his life. Although their way of thinking is different from most people, but it doesn’t affect them to shine their own light and show their intelligence.
