16-year-old Holden Caulfield tells his story in this novel. He used to study in an elite school called Pency. Which was located in Pennsylvania state of America. This was his fourth school, he had been rejected from the previous three schools. But before Christmas, Holden gets an expulsion notice from Pency School. Because he failed in 4 subjects out of 5. He passed in English only.

Before leaving school, he meets his history teacher Spencer. But Spencer solves her paper and starts telling her mistakes. Holden gets annoyed by this and goes away from there. Arriving at the hostel, Holden's roommate Ackley further annoys him. Ackley was a very rude boy. His habits were also very bad. He didn't even brush. His nails were also growing. And he used to abuse everyone. Holden somehow tolerates him. Later he goes to his room. Upon reaching the room, Holden's roommate Stradlater urges him to write a composition in English. Because he was going on a date with a girl named Jane.

Holden is disappointed to know this. Because he loved Jane And was quite protective of her. Holden then wrote a very emotional essay on his younger brother Allie for Stradlater. Allie died untimely. Holden didn't cry over his death. But he had broken many glass windows of the garage in anger.
When Stradlater came back, he didn't even appreciate Holden's essay. It was written for him. And in which he expressed his sentiments.

Holden asks Stradlater what he did with Jane. Stradlater directly tells or subtracts it
started teasing. Holden becomes enraged and punches Stradlater. But Stradlater was very stubborn. And he easily beat Holden and punched him. Holden's nose started to bleed, but he continued to abuse Stradlater. Later, Holden went to Ackley's room to get the gold. But he paid no attention to Holden And sleep well. Holden couldn't sleep. Holden was by now fed up with Pency's fake students. He decided to leave Pency at the same time
Did it and caught the train to New York.

He thought he would not be home until Wednesday, which was in Manhattan. Jab on Wednesday. He will go home only when his parents will know about his expulsion. Until then, he will visit New York City And stay in a hotel. On the train to New York, Holden meets the mother of a student studying at the Pency School. Why was the student very mischievous? But Holden told me some disturbing things about his island. He said that his son is very polite. And everyone in the school respects him. Hearing this, the boy's mother became very happy. While the boy was the oppositeArriving at Penn Station, Holden hailed a taxi and asked for the Edmont Hotel. He asked the driver – Where do all the ducks go when the Central Park pond gathers in winter? The driver thought him crazy and did not reply.

In the evening, Holden danced with three girls. But he was disappointed to find that the conversation between the girls was very shallow. Then he went to a nightclub. There he met a prostitute named Sunny. which Holden Sec Ask him to hire. Holden agreed. And they both came to Holden's hotel. But when Holden reaches his waist with Sunny, his attitude towards Sunny changes. he wanted to chat with her. Sunny got very upset with this and left with full payment. But after a while, he came back The pimp came back with Maurice. He took money from Holden's wallet. Maurice punched him Hit and knocked him down. Lying on the floor, Holden imagines Maurice shooting a pistol.

The next morning Holden started to feel very depressed. He wanted to talk to someone.
She called an old friend, Sally, and asked her to go with her to see a play at a Baltimore theater. Sally was also a fake girl. But she agreed to go with him. After watching Play, Holden bought a record called Little Shirley Beans for his 10-year-old sister Phoebe at a music store. Two days later he wanted to reach home and give her a gift. if a body catches a body coming through the rye singing the song if a body catches a body coming through the rye listen Hearing this song, Holden's mood became very good.

Then Holden and Sally go to Rockefeller Center. There Holden suddenly starts talking about his resentment towards society. She begins to think Holden is crazy. their conversation turned into a fight. And both went their separate ways in anger. Holden then invites Carl Luce, a school friend of his, to the Wicar bar for drinks. Carl was also impressed by Holden's revolutionary words. She thinks Holden is gay. And started talking about his sex life.

Before leaving, Carl advises Holden to see a psychiatrist. After this, Holden drank heavily. Flirted with some ladies. Then called Sally to apologize also did But Sally was still angry and didn't say anything. After getting tired, Holden went to Central Park to see the ducks. But there was mistakenly bought for Phoebe
The record is broken from that. By now all his money was gone. he was missing his family. So he leaves for the house which was in Manhattan. When Holden got home, his parents had left work. He is the companion of his beloved sister Phoebe. He was only able to tell Phoebe everything in his mind.

Phoebe surmises that Holden was also judged by the Penceys. He tried to explain to Holden his behavior. Phoebe asked Holden – what do you want to do in life? Holden remembered the song of the little boy in the music store. Inspired by that, Holden said – He wants to become the Catcher in the Rye.
Rye is called the grass growing on the hill. In which children play. Many times the children are playing from the top of the mountain.

Holden wants to catch these kids before they fall. But Phoebe didn't understand that. Well, this philosophical thing is not understood by anyone. Phoebe was only a child. When Holden's parents come home, he sneaks out of the house. then he goes to the house of his English teacher.

Antolini also tries to explain to him. She gives Holden gold in her house. But when Holden wakes up, he gets upset. Antolini was patting his head. Holden finds this a sexual gesture. That night He leaves his house and spends the night at Grand Central Station. There he is filled with disappointment even more. And regrets leaving Antolini's house like this. The next morning he wanders down 5th Avenue.

Now all of Holden's hopes are broken. He feels that no one in this world can understand him. No friends, no family, no adults. He decides that he will go west and live alone in a cabin. Before leaving, he wanted to say goodbye to Phoebe. That's why he's at school at lunchtime goes. He gets very upset seeing dirty language written on the wall. He wonders if the children have abused him
If you know the meaning, you will lose your innocence. He tried to rub the words with his hands and failed.

He asks Phoebe to meet him at the Museum of Art. When Phoebe arrived he had a suitcase with him. She also started insisting to go with Holden. But Holden refused. This made Phoebe depressed. Holden takes Phoebe to the Zoo to cheer her up. When they get to the carousel, Holden buys her a ticket. Phoebe is very happy.

When Holden sees Phoebe happily swinging on the carousel, he finally becomes happy himself. Finally, he goes home to his parents.
He tells the readers that in September he will have to join a new school. Holden was hearing this story from an unknown institute in California. Jahan his therapy was going on with a psychologist.

Finally, Holden says that when he gets his vacation after a month, he will visit his older brother D.B. K will pass. Who lived there in Hollywood? Holden was also upset with him. Because instead of being a writer of literature, he became a screenwriter in Hollywood.
