A relationship cannot survive either distortion for long. If truth is spoken with contempt, it may be accurate, but it will not be righteous. If love is defined as emotional protection from discomfort, it may feel gentle, but it will not produce maturity. The strength of a relationship is not proven by the absence of pain. It is proven by the ability to let truth and love remain together when pain appears.
