love
All you need is Love, and Love is all you need.
Fermentation of the Evolving Girl.
Someone once told me that loving me is comparable to acquiring the taste for wine. As time goes on, the warm complexity of it is like honey on the lips of one, but remains a pungent shudder on the tongue of another. I guess some people don’t care enough to stick around waiting for the sweetness to kick in. He always did tell me he preferred whiskey.

The Navy Blue Sweater
“I brought you a blanket.” I heard Shelia say. “I don’t know why you like sitting out here, it’s so cold.” I smiled in response. Most people don’t understand it, they think I’m crazy. But I like the cold. It is one of the few things that remind me I was alive.

Would You Like Another
A newly poured glass of wine in one hand, the other resting on the table. Your elbows propping yourself up as you sit, waiting. Dressed in red, your hair styled with elegance, your makeup done to give your smile a glow. The twilight of the night grasping at the hands of time as the setting begins to weigh on you. All around you are people enjoying their night out. The family beside you are out with their daughter, celebrating her graduation from college. The group of seven businessmen in the far corner are taking shots after closing a major deal with a competing company. A few tables in front of you sits an older couple. A night out together, they are enjoying each other’s company. They look so happy.

Lucky Date
Lucky Date I was just 24 at the time, I was working construction for a good friend of mine. We were working on this home that was getting a complete rehab. Right next to her home, windows, roof, siding, porch, and driveway. I noticed her next-door the very first day. You could not help but notice her she was that beautiful.

The Six Stages of Heartbreak
First the colours fade. The bright reds and blues turn to greys. The sunsets turn to just another time of day. The parks that you picnicked in turn cold and mock you with their happy couples. That bouquet of roses you bought for her is still sitting by the door, wilting. The deep reds and pinks turn to yellow and grey and crumble like ashes. The pictures you took start fading, her smile becomes less radiant. But you don’t look at your pictures, because then you start drowning in memories and the what-ifs. You avoid the pictures, but you can’t avoid the music.

The Wonders and Wounds of Older Dating
Emerging from a defunct marriage and the subsequent years of single parenting was daunting enough. As I assessed myself in the mirror, I realized I had not really looked at Me for years – decades? Who was this frazzled, frizzled person staring back at me? Efforts to find my ‘best’ side quickly plummeted along with the sagging neck and drooping belly and butt. All the inhaling and tightening of muscles (who was I kidding –what muscles?) did not manufacture the pre-marriage look of youthful skin and supple limbs I was trying to find. This is what I was taking out there into the dating market.

A Voice and Two Glasses
Adarsh felt that disconnected feeling he knew so well again this morning at work. Though the caverns of the call center hummed mightily around him, he felt transient, empty, like his own feet may not be attached to his body. A ten hour shift with just two breaks glared at him like the halogen light fixtures above. He knew he was fortunate to have the job, but the thought of fielding angry customer calls on this day would have crushed him if he let it. Disconnection was the only option.
