humanity
For better or for worse, relationships reveal the core of the human condition.
Wigwam
Wigwam "One of my Martial Art students recently read British Warrior and approach me after class some time ago. With absolute respect he asked me "How on earth are you still alive?" Good question. My traumas have been many and to this day, I am plagued with almost nightly nightmares and terrors. I sometime wake up screaming and drenched in sweat, Julie rubbing my back as I recall to her that the people who haunted my past still visit me today. It has been suggested I have PTSD and I wouldn't argue with that.

We don’t really know what to expect these days. There are many things out there that jostle for our time and attention. We’ve got the bright lights and advertisements trying to get us to part with our money for products that we don’t need. We’ve got the bright screens of our phones, tablets and computers trying to get us to be more productive at work.

Morning came slowly, beginning at the farthest edges of the night and creeping toward the center of the sky. Rue watched the sun fight the moon for its place in the daytime sky. He was just reaching the end of his morning walk, his house coming into view. It was a nice house, middle class, so not extravagant but not shambles. He closed his eyes and breathed in the morning. The silence, the freshness, the dew, the slight chill despite it being late summer. The other houses in the neighborhood were coming to life with the sun. Kids getting ready for school, parents getting ready for work, elderly couples who get up out of habit. His house was the only one on the street that remained dark. No one was greeting the new day there. No one was breathing in the fresh morning. No one wanted the world to continue its orbit there. Not that house. Not anymore.

Life may surprise you, and not always in a beautiful way. When I was a young boy, strong and healthy, playing sports, baseball, football, running track, riding a bike for great distances, having fun with friends climbing trees, walking to school, and walking the city streets. I would see some of the elderly folks moving around slowly with canes, people being helped by caregivers, people using walkers, being pushed around in wheelchairs, or not able to walk normally while struggling not to fall. I would think to myself, God, why don't you heal them so they can have a healthy life, or why did they let themselves get that way. The thought of being like them worried me. I should have exercised more ate better had more checkups, gotten plenty of sleep as a young person.

Doris Walton is a force to be reckoned with. Not quite 79 years of age and standing maybe five feet tall, she’s not an imposing figure.

In the beginning there was nothing, but nothing is unstable. A true vacuum is mythological and has about as much to do with the Universe as a unicorn. Unicorns are make-believe, but equaling zero is alchemy realized—real magic—when you consider the pluses and minuses that even out, the zero-sum-gain dynamic that invents infinite beauty in vacillating and fleeting apparitions.

There are no perfect societies, all cultures have their bad and good parts. Part of learning about history, traditions and past actions means learning what does and does not work. History has shown that discrimination never works for the best, yet people continue to discriminate daily. Beliefs like Confucianism and the Bushido Code may not be perfect but they focus on the community rather than personal goals and greed. The history of the Bedouins and what the government has done to them, is a perfect example of how to make bad choices and be immoral. Throughout history we are reminded of what not to do and what to do, we just have to listen to it.
Bullying
What is bullying? There are many different definitions for bullying, but they all pretty much say the same thing. Bullying is the unwanted and aggressive behavior between people that involves a power imbalance. This unwanted aggressive behavior has to either have the potential to be repetitive or be repetitive. The power imbalance that causes this behavior does not have to be real. This imbalance can be many things, such as physical strength, embarrassing information, popularity or just the want to control and harm others. When most people think of bullying, they think of school children. Bullying does not just happen to children it can happen to adults too.

I was woken today by the sound of fierce wind and dancing trees, as the rain thumped on my window. The birds sang softly with the ebbs and flows of the brisk front. I have always loved the rain. It makes me feel alive, and grateful for the heavens to purge itself of the impurities of the sky.

Being “real” isn’t something that happens overnight. It doesn’t click on a casual afternoon and stick with us for the rest of our lives without struggle. We have to put in real work and effort to keep it there, and we have to keep alert that it is not lost along the journey.
