The Real Man and the Enchanted Forest
Once upon a time, deep in the heart of an untouched wilderness, there lived a man named Aric. He was known for his deep connection with nature, a bond that went beyond mere admiration. Aric loved exploring the farthest reaches of the forests, listening to the songs of the trees and the whispers of the wind. One day, he decided to venture into an amazing forest he had heard tales of—a place where the creatures of the wild roamed free, unbothered by the presence of man. As he walked into the forest, the air felt different—alive, almost magical. The dense canopy above shaded the ground, casting dappled sunlight over the mossy earth. Birds chirped melodies unfamiliar to him, and the scent of pine and earth was stronger here than in any forest he had been before. His heart raced with excitement as he journeyed deeper, eager to see what this enchanted place had in store. Suddenly, through the trees, he spotted something unusual. A majestic lion, with a golden mane that seemed to glow in the filtered sunlight, was lounging by a stream. But it wasn’t alone. A small rabbit, white as snow, hopped playfully around the lion, darting between its large paws. Nearby, a clever-looking fox with bright orange fur watched them, occasionally joining in with a playful nip or dash. The scene was surreal—these animals, natural enemies in the wild, were playing together as though they had known each other all their lives. Aric, hidden behind a tree, couldn’t believe his eyes. How was this possible? A lion, a rabbit, and a fox, not just coexisting but playing together in peace? He stood still, mesmerized by the sight, careful not to disturb the harmony of this strange yet beautiful scene. As he continued watching, the animals suddenly stopped their game. The lion raised its head, its sharp eyes locking onto Aric’s. The rabbit froze, its little ears twitching, and the fox stood alert, sniffing the air. Aric’s heart skipped a beat—had they noticed him? What would happen now? The lion slowly stood up and took a step toward Aric. But there was no malice in its gaze, no sign of threat. The rabbit and the fox followed, their curiosity piqued. Aric, though slightly nervous, felt an inexplicable calm wash over him. He stepped out from behind the tree, his hands raised to show he meant no harm. To his astonishment, the lion approached and nudged his hand with its nose, as though inviting him into their circle. The rabbit hopped up to his feet, and the fox circled around him, its bright eyes gleaming with mischief. It was as if they had accepted him, welcomed him as one of their own. Aric knelt down, gently petting the lion’s mane. The rabbit nuzzled against his leg, and the fox sat down beside him, its tail swishing playfully. He felt an overwhelming sense of peace and connection, as though this moment had been waiting for him all his life. But suddenly, the wind shifted. The trees rustled with a strange, low hum, and the once peaceful forest began to change. The air grew heavy, and the sky darkened, casting long shadows over the ground. Aric stood up, his senses heightened. The animals, too, seemed alert, their playful demeanor replaced by cautious watchfulness. A low growl echoed through the forest, not from the lion beside him, but from somewhere deeper in the woods. The ground trembled slightly, and a deep, ominous presence seemed to move through the trees. Aric’s heart raced—something was coming. Out of the shadows, a massive figure emerged—a dark, shadowy creature, its form indistinct but terrifying. It loomed over the forest, sending a wave of fear through Aric. But the lion, the rabbit, and the fox stood their ground, forming a protective circle around him. To Aric’s surprise, the lion let out a powerful roar, not of fear, but of defiance. The rabbit thumped its feet, and the fox bared its teeth, ready to defend their new friend. Aric, inspired by their courage, felt a surge of bravery rise within him. As the dark creature advanced, the animals moved as one. The lion leapt forward, slashing through the shadows with its mighty paws. The fox dashed around, confusing the creature with its speed, while the rabbit hopped nimbly, dodging every attempt to strike. Together, they fought off the darkness, their bond of friendship stronger than any fear. And just as suddenly as it had appeared, the shadowy figure dissolved into the air, vanquished by the unity and strength of the unlikely group. The forest brightened once more, the air clearing, and the strange tension lifted. Aric knelt down, his heart full of gratitude for the animals who had protected him. He realized that this forest was more than just a place of beauty—it was a sanctuary of harmony, where even the fiercest of creatures could find peace with one another. From that day on, Aric returned to the amazing forest, not just as an explorer, but as a friend. The lion, the rabbit, and the fox became his companions, showing him the wonders of the forest and teaching him the true meaning of friendship. Together, they lived in harmony, proving that in the wild, as in life, love and trust could conquer even the darkest of shadows.

Renaissance Festival War Stories September 7-8, 2024
...Continued from weekend 3 Saturday was the 6th annual Un-Official Pride Day at The Minnesota Renaissance Festival. Nearly 1400 people rsvp'd to our Facebook event. It gets bigger each year and we are so glad to love and be loved in the communities: Renaissance and LBGTQIA+. Shops decked themselves out, acts wore their best rainbow, flag, or pride duds, and the patrons take their garb to the next level. While I'm glad to be the nexus of the event annually, I am not the true origin. PRIDE doesn't happen without all the people willing to be generous in a community to show who they are and will not be hurt or repressed for a safe love or lifestyle.

Fundak
We met at the Turkish delight store in Toronto on downtown Yonge Street. The night she walked in, the store was empty of customers, just me at the front and my colleague, who was spending time at the baklava counter at the opposite end of the store. I wasn’t planning on making any sales for the rest of the evening since it was after 8 p.m.
