The Ravine
We walk forward every day of our lives. Sometimes we must take a step or two back to figure out how to keep going. But what if one day you suddenly leap way ahead? You no longer understand where you are in life. Taking that step back to understand becomes impossible because that leap took you over a ravine. That was how it felt when the bank informed me of the large sum that was entered into my account.

Please, Jolie
Everyday I would see him at work, he just casually dressed. Slacks and a simple button Yes up shirt over a plain white under shirt so he didn't have to expose his bare skin through the material of his shirt. Black loafers in the style of a boat shoe. The shoes seemed to be pretty pricey Sperry's but hey, look are deceiving. But, he was always well dressed so I wouldn't be surprised if it were something pricey and almost astronomically out of my price range for what I call, a "budget". He was attractive, fair skin with memorizing blue eyes. He was taller than me but still lacked in height compared to other males, still he had an almost perfect psychic. He was older in age, I could tell by his maturity and how he carried himself, on the other hand I am particularly young so his age in comparison to mine is simply comparing apples to oranges. His hair was golden and long, he kept it slicked back and into a tight and almost majestic ponytail that stopped just above his tale bone. His smile was subtle and he was shy. That also was attractive. It was illusive. He acted like I didn't exist around everyone else, but I could see the soft suggestions he was making towards me. The body language and the incentive of lust and passion. Of course, this was a work place and any form of relationships between co-workers a simply forbidden by company policy. Why would anyone risk their entire life, health and welfare for the endeavors of temptation? I continue to work and stop dabbling in the thoughts of his presence and how curiosity strikes me.

Trench
I guess you never really know how it feels to feel small if you’ve never felt big. I’ve felt like Trench my whole life, nothing to compare to it. Yeah, I was born Shane McCarthy, but I was given the nickname Trench when I was nine and baby Shane may as well have not existed. He didn’t have much to him. Didn’t feel much. Didn’t do much. He was a baby; they don’t do they. Lazy fuckers.

Hello
Hello. It's a word you hear all the time. When you see someone new or when you meet up with a friend. When you smile at someone and when you say hello to them. Hello is a common word, something you expect to hear, but sometimes, the way it's said, can be quite unexpected. From time to time, hello can imply so much and yet so little. Sometimes, the person doesn't want to say hello or they're just too eager. Occasionally, hello can be the last thing you hear before you die. Or, it can be the last thing you hear before they die.

The Little Things
“What are you going to order?” I flipped through the menu, trying to squelch the feeling of discontentment stirring in the pit of my stomach. “Just a sandwich, I think.” Gingerly I retrieved the spoon from the sugar bowl where Sam had left it, sugar crystals clinging to it. I stirred my coffee slowly, not wanting to meet Sam’s eyes. I shouldn’t have been feeling this way a week before the wedding.

Compensation
Compensation. That’s what they’d called it. He’d thought of a thousand other overly dramatic and bitter names for what they had offered him. ‘Blood money’ was his favourite, and there was a wince anytime from others anytime he used the phrase. People did love to use empty platitudes and words of consolation whenever a tragedy occurred, but never did have anything to say if you responded with anything other than a quiet, dignified acceptance.
