Why I Wasn't Yale Material
I spent the better part of my youth convinced that my existence was a series of jagged edges that simply didn't fit into the gilded, symmetrical frame of an institution like Yale. While my peers were meticulously curating their extracurricular rosters to reflect a balanced, high-achieving persona, I was wandering through the local library’s dusty stacks, devouring obscure philosophy and history books that had no bearing on my GPA. I lacked the sharp, utilitarian edge of the true Ivy League candidate; I was far too comfortable with inefficiency, too prone to existential tangents in the middle of a math exam, and utterly disinterested in the performative leadership roles that supposedly signaled a future world leader.

Not a Loss, but an Upgrade
I know you might not want to hear this, because leaving is truly painful. Whether it's a relationship, a friendship, a partnership, or even a job you've held for a long time—you've worked incredibly hard and given it your all, but then the other person leaves, the relationship changes, or the door closes.

Why I Couldn’t Go To Harvard
The idea of going to Harvard would have been a shimmering, impossible dream that teased the edges of my reality, but the subsequent financial aid package felt like a heavy door slamming shut in my face. Despite years of relentless academic dedication and the promise of a brilliant future, the sheer, cavernous gap between the university’s tuition costs and my family’s modest income created an insurmountable barrier. I clutched the crisp, embossed stationery in my hands, feeling the weight of a prestige I could not afford, realizing that institutional excellence often comes with a price tag that effectively locks out those of us who lack familial wealth or institutional pedigree.

Ellafino. Top Story - May 2026.
"I'm stuck." "What has you stuck?" "Ellafino." "Heh, heh. Yeah, right. What's going on?" "I'm...frozen. My mind freezes between words. I just sit here...almost as if I were paralyzed. Stuck. ... Zoning out. Tunnel vision sets in. I see only the computer screen, and the rest of the room blurs as if I'm not wearing my glasses. It takes effort to move my fingers to type. I...just want to sit here, mindlessly watching nothing happen, irritated that the grammar check puts a blue line under the word 'just.'"

My parents’ version of me vs. the real one
I was home for the holidays, standing in my childhood kitchen, when my mom said something that stopped me cold. She was folding laundry—my old towels, the ones with the faded blue stripes—and she looked up with this soft, proud smile. “You were always so good at math,” she said. “Remember how you’d help your little brother with his fractions? I always knew you’d end up in something analytical.”

Scam, Scams, Scamming
Suspicion, caution, wariness, jaded, and guarded. These are the words for this generation and future generations that describe their life and future. There is and more than likely will be no openness, and free-spirited optimism. Nothing is real and everything is suspect. How did we get here?

Hughes spent 20 years specialising in applied behaviour, psychological operations, and intelligence and what he shared is both fascinating and unsettling.

Beyond the "Why": Reclaiming Your Worth from the Shadow of Betrayal
The most terrifying aspect of some relationships isn't the breakup itself. It's the fact that even though you've separated from that person, even though you know they weren't worth it and you're no longer hopelessly in love, the incident remains like a thorn stuck deep in your heart, impossible to remove.
