dating
All about dating. First dates, three years into a relationship, Tinder, and more.
The Damsel in Distress
I couldn’t take it anymore. This date had gone from bad to worse. In fact, it may go down in the record books as the worst first date in modern history. Maybe of all time. The only thing that could possibly top it would be for it to end in death or dismemberment. Thank god I was only a witness to this travesty, not an actual participant. Still, I couldn’t help but feel bad for the petite blonde.

The Merlot Girl
The Merlot Girl by Neha Joseph Everette walked down the street hands in his pocket and head tucked low behind his collar. He didn't want to be noticed, but it was hard when he stood taller at six feet and had a bright blonde head of hair which he attempted to hide with a hat. All futile because, like his brother, Blake would say, ‘still makes him look mysterious to the chicks’. Regardless Everette didn’t like the attention so he hurried down the city street to the bar where his long night awaited. He couldn’t believe he let his brother convince him to be the bait to get into a club so he could hit on a girl. As Everette grimaces over the poorly constructed plan, Blake sees him and runs up to his brother. Colliding into him excitedly the brothers hugged, Everette pushing him away slightly as he started bursting about the plan.

My Date with Lenny
Arlie rushed from her hearing to free another immigrant from an ICE detention cage to her computer in hopes of scoring the hottest ticket! One in Five Million chances to win a date with Lenny Kravitz. Excited, Arlie quickly opened her screen, ready to take a shot at the winning ticket and Lenny Kravitz, the words: SOLD OUT flashed. Fifteen Minutes! Sold out faded into her tears.

No Red Flags, Just Red Wine
Jill matched with Paul last week and they bonded over the fact that they both considered themselves oenophiles, although Paul certainly didn’t know the word. She chose this bar after checking out the wine list online, so when she walked in she already knew what bottle she wanted to share; it was a 2017 Merlot called Meet Cute. How adorable would that be? They could serve the wine at the wedding and tell the story about how they shared it the night they met. The Meet Cute name would certainly distract from the fact that they met online, while Jill was ¾ the way through a bottle, scrolling and watching Grey’s Anatomy alone on a Friday night.

Games People Play
It’s crazy to be so nervous and excited waiting for him to sign on to this game. Our game. The online game I started playing to spend more time with him after we met on a Skype call. There was just something about his voice with that slight southern drawl. I could never decide if he called all the girl's babe, hun, sweetie, and darlin’ because that was his personality or if it was because he didn’t remember our names.

It's in the Label
“Abysmal,” the brunette sneered through pursed cherry lips. “Grotesque, appalling, laughable even… the synonyms go on and on,” she chuckled, flicking her wrists dramatically. The movement swung her bracelets into a rattle, creating a sharp chime that she thought punctuated the following pause nicely.

BREATHE
Minha opened the blue door of Breathe Yoga, taped the CLOSED for COVID sign on the front and closed it again. She sidestepped the boxes stuffed with four years of files and personal effects and sank to the yoga mat on the floor, welcoming the cool on her skin as she leaned against the wall. It had been a long day and she was spent, physically and emotionally. She’d cleaned and packed the last of everything there was to clean and pack, but then came the saying goodbye—not just to her studio but to her fellow merchants, people she’d come to call friends. Defined in the governor’s mandate as a gym, Breathe Yoga was the only shop on the tiny Baltimore block marked to shut down by 5pm, and one by one her neighbors had dropped by to see her off, wish her well. She couldn’t even hug them—everybody 6 feet apart, their smiles and words lost behind masks. It was hard. She would miss this part of her life. But it was Julian, the one person she hadn’t seen all day, who she’d miss the most.

Redemption in a Bottle
As she carefully slid onto the tall, swiveling bar stool, Renee admired the overall design of the backdrop. The liquor was stacked high on mahogany shelving units accented by dim lights underneath. Between the columns of varied glass bottles were tall mirrors framed by wood in an antique-looking pattern.

First Date
He’s here! Excitement runs through my blood and I race to the full length mirror to check my final look. My skin glistened, and the waves of my hair set perfectly. I’m pleased and amazed at myself for how absolutely radiant I am and I know it’s partly because of John. I like him and I’m certain that the feelings are reciprocated just by the way he looks at me.
