All of us lie to ourselves. It is easy for us to deceive ourselves because we don't know ourselves. We blame others for our problems, even when we're primarily responsible.

It takes work to get to know who you are. Many people don't care about the truth. That's why people are so prone to distractions like food, television, and the internet. It's easier to distract ourselves instead of facing reality.

You can create a fulfilling life by leveraging your strengths and working around your weaknesses when you become self-aware.

So how do you become more self-aware? Here are some techniques you can use to learn how.

Identify the goals you want to achieve.

By knowing your goals, you can figure out how to spend your time to achieve them. When you determine your goals, you can gain a better understanding of yourself.

If you can't decide on your goals, consider what area of your life needs the most work Decide what you want to accomplish about it and stick to it. It's okay if your goals aren't perfect. Choose one that appeals to you.

Make sure you measure what matters.

Once you've identified your goals, it's time to determine what's important and measure it. Caloric intake and body weight should be measured if you are attempting to lose weight. You also might count carbohydrates and exercise. If you’re looking for ways to save money, you should regularly track your earnings, expenses, and savings. To write a novel, you can measure how many pages and hours you write each day.

Keep a daily journal of your activities.

What did you do today? Having identified your goals and relevant activities, measure how good your days are. Make a note of how you spend each hour.

As an example, a journal entry might read: "6:00-7:00 PM: 20 minutes watching TV. Exercise for 20 minutes. Worked on my website for 20 minutes."

It might surprise you how little time you're taking on your steps to reach your goals. Add up the time you spent doing something productive. Don't lie!

We all believe we are working hard. In spite of this, we are often spending time doing things that do not matter to us.

Take a look at yourself from the perspective of others.

This is very challenging. We need a clear understanding of how others see us. Don't hesitate to ask friends and family for advice. Beg them for honesty.

Take a moment to recall a conversation you've had. If someone else said what you said, how would you feel? What would you think about them?

Try to think of how you handle common situations. Consider how you behave when you're grumpy, tired, stuck in traffic, excited, etc. Imagine someone else acting that way. What would you think of them?

Identify your greatest weaknesses.

Find out what your biggest flaw is. Is there anything you aren't good at? How do you cope with difficult situations? How would you describe your weaknesses?

Get insight from friends.

Seek advice from your friends. Tell them that you would like to be more aware of yourself. You can ask them to describe you, your strengths, and your weaknesses. It will be difficult for them to tell the truth completely. Make sure they know you will appreciate their honesty.

We are all capable of self-awareness, but only a select few pursue it.

Knowing yourself makes it easier to be successful. It is possible to use your strengths to overcome your weaknesses. You can take full advantage of your strengths. Through self-management, you better understand yourself and your motivations.
